Default Recommend me parts for my project.

I want to rebuild my 88 Crx Si engine... with a few performance upgrades. what parts should I look into buying? I do not know lots about engines, but my Dad is a bit of a mechanic. I know I should upgrade the pistons... but I need some education here.

Higher compression = good?

research = better

Honestly im not trying to be a dick, but you need to spend several hours just reading builds on here, onecamonly.com is a great place as those guys are VERY intelligent, google, magazines, everything.

Your question is so broad it cant possibly be answered. You first need to decide if you want to spray, boost, stay naturally aspirated, how fast you want to go, how much money you want to spend, how reliable it needs to be, etc. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

Goodluck!

you aren't being a dick. trust me.
that is useful to me. i do not know where exactly i am going with this build...

I want it to be a reliable DD, that has some kick to it.
I will be looking at that site for several hours now...
Thank you gator88!

gator88 has a very good point. if you are going to boost the motor, then aren't going to want a high compression ratio before boosting it. but, if you are going to run n/a, then higher compression, to a certain degree, is going to help you out. if you are looking at a relativly simple few ways to get some horse power, then start with the basics like everyone else. get you a header. then get yourself an intake. then some exhaust. prob upgrade to about 2 1/4" or 2 1/2". then, decide after you get a few things done to it like those, what exactly it is you want the car to be. then tell us what you want and we can def. help you find some good parts.

depending on how much money you want to spend, you might be best off with a longblock DOHC ZC motor swap, you can get them cheap with low miles, 130hp cheaper than rebuilding your current engine with pistons, high compressioon, header, whatever.

thats what I would do, unless i had too much money to spend and refused a swap.

Low miles on an engine that is well over a decade old?
It's probably looking to be rebuilt soon too.

will those ebay headers work fine on a stock car?
i know they're low quality metal/welds,but will they hold up to a stock?

ya, it all depends on your budget and what you really want out of your engine.

They are not very good quality, but some of them are only $70 shipped. It should make a hp difference on a mild engine build.

Wow, me and my brother have bought several low mileage 30-40K JDM engines over a decade old that run, look and test(leak down, compression etc..) new.
