Default Code 7 TPS--car runs great, though

I'm getting Code 7 for my TPS. I broke the original TPS while installing the engine (oops) and purchased a BLOX unit off eBay. When cold, the car idles at 2000rpms--it will eventually come down to 1100rpms, but that could take quite awhile (or some hard driving). I assume this has to do with the TPS. Also, I can unplug the TPS while the car is running to no effect. I can even rev it fine. What is my solution here? I attempted to get a voltage reading on the TPS, but couldn't even get that.

Did you correctly calibrate the TPS with a volt meter?

I couldn't even get a reading from it on my DMM. I put the car in the ON position, but not running. Then I put the positive probe on the middle prong and the negative probe on the chassis (ground). Nothing registered on my DMM closed or WOT.

- connect the multimeter to ground and the middle wire to measure tps voltage.
- TPS sensor is held in place by 2 screws. Open the throttle rotor to WOT and keep rotating the sensor until you get the output shown on the multimeter to 4.5v.
- Tighten tps sensor down & adjust idle setting screw. Adjust this until the idle reading on the tps is about 0.48-0.49v.
- Now double check that WOT & idle tps readings are correct and put it all back together.

if you don't get any readings then ckeck to make sure that there is power going to the TPS by putting testing the two outer pins with your volt meter, it should be 5 volts. make sure you didn't swap the map and tps sensor plugs.

I'll have to retry, I guess. I didn't swap plugs--wouldn't I get a code for the MAP sensor as well?

Also, how exactly do I test the sensor? Maybe I'm doing it wrong. I put the key in the ON position, unplugged the sensor and put the positive probe on the middle prong on the sensor. The negative was touching the chassis.

nope you need to leave the sensor conneted and probe the wires while the key is in the on posistion

How do you probe the wires? Forgive me, that sounds impossible without stripping the insulation away.

You have back probe it. Leave it plugged in and probe it from the back of the plug.

sorry yah probe the back of the plug, sometimes it makes it easier to push sewing needles into the plug or the wire it self and connect your test leads to those.

No wonder I wasn't getting a reading. Thanks guys, I'll try this tomorrow and report back.

i just did this exact thing yesterday. i was having a problem keeping the probe in the back of the plug so i ended up just cutting a small hole in the red wire and then used electrical tape to close it up. MUCH easier that way.

Same concept but less destructive, just take a sewing needle and push it into the wire like you were putting a needle in someones arm lol.
