I just dont understand the whole EJ thing?
I have a 1997 Honda Civic Ex and everywhere i look says something different? Some say it is an ek, some say ej8, some ej7...etc....???? what is it and why are all these people calling it something that it is not?
your vin number will tell u what chasis you have. such as i have a 00 si. the vin starts with 1HG and then EM1 to specify its an si, it should start with 1HG and then have the chasis code, EJ7 EJ8 so on
you can find decoders online by just searching

check your vin it will tell you what it is
i have a 1995 ex mine is a ej1
my brother has a 1995 dx and his is a ej2
its like the second part of your vin

everyone thinks theyre 96-00 civic is an "EK". The EJ is the chassis code us americans are riding in. And im pretty sure the number after the letters stands for the year in the generation that it was made. for example, my 00 civic is an EJ8 and it was made in 2000.
And an EJ1 is a 92 civic coupe. I know im right with the letters, just not 100% on the numbers.

People use EK for simplifications and to think that they are Mad tyte JDM. Go to the top of this forum, under the FAQ'S in sub-section Specifications. There you will find a topic called Chassis Code List. Find your year, body style, and motor. Hint (It will be in the EJ section) and there you have it. Or you can go out to your car. Look 3-4 digits into your VIN number and see it right there for yourself.

Yah, people are stupid and like to refer to all 5th gens as "EGs" and all 6th gens as "EKs", they think it's a "simplification" and makes it "easier", but in reality it's just wrong.
Here is the only list you'll ever need for chassis codes:

Hope it helps. Also, the chassis codes can be extracted from your VIN, which in itself tells you a lot = especially the first 5 digits:
1HGEM1, for example.
1 = Country of origin, USA
H = Manufacturer, Honda
G = Division within Manufacturer that makes the car (Honda, Acura)
E = HP/weight classification
M = Platform
1 = Trim level or unique identifier of sorts
So here you can see it's a '99-00 Si, (1HG) EM1, and we call them EM1s. To call it an "EK Si" means you're pretty much referring to a car that does not exist.
Here's the HowStuffWorks article that schooled me on this:

i call it AD EF EG EK. I'm an EG guy. If you stripped a dx hatch and a vx and a cx to its shell, it'll be completely identical. Every part is interchangeable. The only difference in chassis is the ex and si's that provide a sunroof. So why call it a ej1 or whatever? It's "more" proper I guess, but for simplicity, the jdm code works wonders.

Because he has an EJ, not an EG. And for your purpose, all the 92-95 hatches ARE EH, unless your car was manufactured in Japan, and EGs are Sedans in the USDM. I agree that the trim modifier is useless at times, but when referring to a sedan it's an EG, a hatch is an EH, and a coupe is an EJ. These are very different things.
Anyhow, to each his own..
