your car is actially a ej8 since its a ex, people sometimes refer to any 96-00 civic as a ek even though its not 100% true

Don't believe so. I could be wrong, but I always thought that true EKs were all hatches.

For some reason though, most people here seem to call all 97-00 civics EKs (unless it's an Si, which makes it an EM1).

I don't call mine either one, I just say that I have a 2000 EX. It's more specific and gives more information when I'm asking a question. Honestly, I would much prefer that people use that method. That way you don't look like a douche for posting a chassis code that everybody knows is wrong.

The stereo-typical chassis codes are EF, EG, EK, etc, and usually just reference the entire generation based on the common JDM code. Various chassis' have different codes, like most USDM EF's are ED's, and some USDM EK's can be EM's.

Its only confusing if you're dealing with a very picky Honda nut who doesn't care if its easier to say "EK" than "USDM 1998 Civic Hatchback CX 5psd", or making someone research a specific code that they aren't familiar with.

Look at your VIN. Do you see EJ8? Then you have an EJ.

EJ6's came with a D16Y7.
EJ7's came with a D16Y5.

EK's however exist overseas...like the EK9 (which is a hatchback).

yeah i knew that i said an EK coupe though, i thought they were all EK hatches and from what everyone on here says that is true so i dont feel so retarded now because it just too damn confusing i agree with VINDICATOR9000, i just wish people would say their exact car and not be so confusing when talking about ej, eg, ek, ef....etc... but thanks atleast as far as yall have said there isnt an ek coupe....i just wish people would quit calling things the wrong thing...

Yes, people are retarded. Some refer to ALL 96-00 Civics as EKs, which is wrong. For a bit of an explanation on chassis codes, here's a good article:

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/vin.htm

All Honda Civic VINs of cars produced for the US will be "1HG", the two letters and number following that will tell you what your chassis code is. So, for example, I have an EM1 - my VIN starts:

1HGEM1

Hope this helps, and you can therefore actually use chassis codes properly unlike most of the people on this board!

Check your VIN... most people just want to be SSSOOOOOOO JDM that they like to act like their car CAME from Japan. JDM is so played.... HAHAH JK! Im currently turning my EJ6 with EK9 exterior. Sexy...
