Default Oil cooler / turbo feed ideas and questions

First, say you're going to install an oil cooler that has 3/8" NPT inlets, and a sandwich adapter that also has 3/8" NPT. Wouldn't -10 lines be overkill? Seems to me like -8 would do just as good.

Next, I was thinking...what if you ran a line from the sandwich adapter to the oil cooler, then switched to a -3 or -4 on the "out" side of the cooler and ran it to your turbo feed. It would seem like because of the restriction, it would hold the oil in the cooler longer, allowing even lower temps and the other benefit being that the cool oil would be going into your turbo.

Now I haven't looked at a sandwich adapter in years, so I don't know if this would work but I would think you would just plug the return fitting on the sandwich adapter. This would of course only work if the oil is filtered before going into the sandwich adapter's "out" fitting.

What do ya'll think?

i had an idea that's similar to your's except that i run oil cooler between the feedline off the oil pressure sensor on the block. i wasn't sure about this so i started asking around and alot of shops say that doing this might interupt the flow into the turbo possibly damaging it. because of this i decided to just use the sandwich plate to cool down the engine and leave the lines going to the turbo alone.

I have a permacool maxicooler, 3/8 inlet/outlet and a greddy sandwich adapter(VERY NICE) with -10AN lines and earl aeroquip fittings, without problems, oil cooler gets warmed up quick and no pressure problems. The sandwich is independant of the turbo feed. The turbo feed is from teh oil pressure sender, and returns direct to pan. Do not run from cooler to turbo direct, not enough flow that way... -8 lines should work fine, just that i bought a buch of -10 from summit and used just -10 for al oil. I had tried 6-7 OTHER sandwich adapter, but the greddy one was the only one that fit!!! Summit has a GREAT return policy

I want to use a sandwich adapter to use the ports in it for oil supply to my vtec head and turbo. But, just looking at how the oil is pumped from the pan and routed, all the oil going through/out of the sandwich adapter isn't filtered. So running that unfiltered oil directly to vital components might not be a good idea.

Any thoughts?

Can you take some pics of your setup? I just bought a Greddy oil filter relocation kit. I'm thinking of getting a permacool maxicooler as well.

Do you still have the parts list of your setup?

Does anyone use a thermostat in their oil cooler setups to let the oil warm up first?

Well i never took down a list, although i should have, the permacool units and all teh fittings and lines i bought at summit, buy a bunch at once since shipping is a flat rate... then return what you don't need. You have 60days to return!

-8 is too small and doesn't flow as much volume as -10. Use atleast -10 or you will be just wasting money and time!

I use a APP SFIDA temp controlled setup and a smaller diameter filter for clerance. The oil pressure port on the sandwich is used to feed the turbo. The cooler is located in the driver wheel well.

So you think that even though the inlets/outlets on most oil coolers and sandwich adapters is 3/8" NPT, which means the ID should be less than 1/2", and -8 line is .44" that connecting bigger lines to the smaller fittings would not give the same results as a slightly smaller line?

I've been wondering about this, because it seems like the smaller fittings would limit the amount of flow no matter what size lines you use.

Also, did somebody say they were able to order the Greddy sandwich adapter outside the oil cooler kit?
