Default Best location for Viper Prox Sensor?

I had circuit city(I know they suck) put my Viper 600 in and they put the proximity sensor under the console by the shifter and it isnt sensitive at all. They said its turned all the way up and its still sucks. Anyone have a prox on their car in a spot that makes it really sensitive?

thats where its supposed to go.. thats pretty close to the centerline of the vehicle..equal distance between both side windows, and a decent centerline compormise between the front and back windows... you do know that a proximity sensor ONLY goes through glass and plastic right? if your expecting for it to go off when your at your hood.. then no thats not what it was designed to do..

when you go up to your window (really close) it should chirp.. and if you leave the window or sunroof open and you stick your hand in the cabin (about 4-6") it should set off the full 30 second duration (or whatever u have it set to) alarm... anything more sensitive would false a lot and be extremely annoying for both you and your neighbors..

knowing that it doesn't go through metal you don't have any CD's, keys, coins, etc where the proximity sensor is placed do you? otherwise the placement seems idea to me.. thats where mine is placed and it works fine.. I have a Clifford digital dual zone proximity sensor...

do you have tint on your windows ? if so that could be the reason for your poor proformance ! window tint has a small layer of metal film in it so its almost like having more metal than window

I was planning to put mine on the roof behind the roof light or in front of the rear view mirror. You think this will false a lot? How about rain, does it trigger easy with rain? TIA

don't know.. never had mine on the roof/headliner before... I don't have mine set really sensitive.. some people have theirs set where you walk by (in a parking lot) and it chirps... I don't have problems in the rain..

I had the same problem you do. When the sensor is placed in that location, it is like having it in a bathtub and you get no coverage unless someone tries to reach into the car. I considered the headliner (which is the stock BMW E46 location) but it would have left the sensor inaccessible for adjustment. So I custom mounted it inside my pass. side headrest. I ran the wire (computer mouse cable) inside the support for the headrest (its hollow) and made space for the sensor inside by unzipping the headrest and removing some of the foam cushion inside with a razor. It works great, I can set it to go off with motion as far as 6 or 7 feet on the sides, and 1-3 feet on the front and rear. Excellent coverae for a driveway, but too sensitive for most places. I usually have it set to sound a warning when motion is within about a foot or two on the sides. I have a switch so I can turn it off when necessary.

mine is in the center console e-brake/shifter area and it works great.. it chirps when you get REALLY close to the window (i set it like that so it doesn;t false everytime someone walks past it in a parking lot) and if you stick your hand inside like 5 or 6" then it sets off the full alarm.. my sensor is remotely adjustable so I don't have to worry about needing to access it for adjustment.. it works great Clifford

Yes, I do have tint on my car and having it be like a 5 foot bubble around my car is what I want. I was told that if you press the lock button twice, it shuts off the secondary function(prox) and only uses the shock sensor. So the only time I would set it with the prox is either like at the mall or outside my house at night. Anyone want a Viper 600 with a prox? I kinda just wanna sell it and buy something else.

your just setting yourself up for your car to be kicked.. a 5 foot perimeter bubble around the car where when anyone walks by.. it chirps at them is just asking for it.. thats not what a proximity sensor was designed to do and it would be just plain annoying... the tint probably has some metallic particles in it which doesn't help the proximity sensor either.. but what you are wanting is an improper adjustment/sensitivity of the sensor.. people will get annoyed and kick your car...

Did you not read what I put. I only want the prox on when I park it outside me house at night or at the mall when I park 10 spaces away from everyone. But anyhow, anyone have suggestions for beating the tint?

well im not sure where my shop placed mine, but at first it wasnt sensetive enuff. i got them to adjust it so that when my windows are down and the prox is on, the field is just past the window. this gets annoying but i only turn it on at certain times and usually when i park with the windows down. i have tint so even if i leave it on, and the windows are rolled up, its less sensitive and doesnt trip unless your hands are on my glass and peering in as if to steal something. so its set perfectly in my opinion.

if you want tint and a sensative motion sensor you will need to have the car retinted with some expensive tint like lumar's centar. it has a low metal count and will not fade ever. with tint motion sensors are basically glass breakage sensors, because it has such a hard time seeing through tint.
