Default D16a6 valve seals.

I need to change my valve seals to stop the smoking. Anyway, I was wondering if the intake and exhaust side use the same size seals or are they different? I know on b series engines they are different for each side. Not sure about the sohc.

The sohc are the same vtec/nonvtec I use some d16a6 seals on my z6 head when you pull them out use some needle nose pliers and install them by using a socket so it hits the metal parts and doesn't mess the seal up.. Also polish the valves wire wheel...

they should be the exact same because i mixed up the valve seals for my d15b7 and it dont smoke. i would SERIOUSLY recommend using a valve spring compressor becuz its a pain in the *** to do it by hand lol.

Oh, I'm changing them with the head on the car. So air compressor hold the valves up and then my dad friend got this tool to press down the springs.

Well, I just want to be sure. It don't smoke at idle but when it gets hot after driving it'll start smoking. The motor I got in my ef is from a parts car that had been sitting on jack stands for 2 1/2 years without cranking it up. I'm thinking it could be dry rotted valve seals. I haven't done a compression & leak down test yet.

It's a D16a6 if that matters, with all new tune up parts and gaskets, seals. Only thing I haven't replaced is the headgasket, main bearings, rod bearings, piston rings and valve seals yet. Everything else you can think of is already been replaced.

Just want to throw a picture of it.

edit: Keep in mind, the engine doesn't struggle to start, it starts right up every time. So, the compression should be good across the board. Smoke comes out when I rev up, decelerate down a hill, or when I stomp on the gas. I need to check if smoke comes out 1st thing in the morning when I start it. Does that means bad rotten valve seals?

If you get them from Honda, the ones with black springs are for exhaust, and the ones with silver springs are for the intake.

If you get them from an aftermarket supplier, they will most likely all be the same.

I second that motion. but when i changed the valve seals on my old d16 when i had it it was doing the same type of thing but when i changed them and put it all back together the bitch still smoked after about 1500 miles... in which case it started getting worse and worse. then took the rings into consideration so i bought a newer motor.

Smokes at idle now. What are the symptoms of a bad rings or bad valve seals?

It could still be bad seals. Before I rebuilt my GSR head it was starting to smoke at idle. But now it doesn't smoke at all... Unless its a **** ton of smoke i would still say seals.
