Check engine light came on!
So I was working on my friends 01 and the check engine light came on! All I did was pull her stereo out and put it back in... its an after market sony unit. Any possible ideas? I pulled on the stereo harness to get some room but nothing else? Need a response asap!
It's an OBDII car. It's an incredibly complex piece of machinery.
Obviously throwing a CEL isn't something that should normally happen when you change out the radio, so this isn't a common solution. We're not going to be able to diagnose this over the internet. Go to Autozone and have them pull the code and go from there.
It's a dumb question, but are you sure it's the Check-engine light and not the maintenance required light?

actually you can diagnose it here. there is a diagnostic port you can take a paper clip and put it in plug 4 and 9 i believe and turn the key on and your CEL will blink. follow the blinks and match the numbers to the code. try that
