Check engine light question
Hi, my 1995 civic ex is giving me the check engine light periodically (often right when I begin to drive, but then it will stay off for days at a time) . I want to take it to Auto Zone to have them scan it for a code, but the light usually isn't on. I assume that if the light isn't on, then its not throwing a code for the scanner to read. Is my assumption correct, and the light has to be on in order to get a code through scanning?
Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be with a cel that only come on once in a while? Thanks.

I THINK that even if the CEL turns off, the code stays recorded. Take it to auto-zone already and find out, I've heard its free. And do what Jax said. Good luck!
