Rust on Quarter Panel?
I have some rust on my quarter panel, typical honda/acura rust spot, were the rear bumper mounts to quarter panel. (by the wheelwhel)
I was just wondering what is standard procedure for a body shop?
Cut a piece off, wheld new piece sheetmetal etc.
Replace entire quarter?
I wan to get it fixed so i would like to know what my opions are. I don't want to spend a fortune.
thanks

Im not too good at this, I don't have a lot of experience with the cutting and welding, but i think it depends on how bad it it. replacing the whole panel would be like if it was rusted in more places then is economically appropriate to cut and weld.
depends how bad it is if you could post up a pic that would help alot. Unless its just surface rust they would grind it off metal prep the area then prime it seal it paint it clear it.But if they think the rust has gone through to the inside of the rear 1/4 they will cut it out and put a new piece on.
im supprised the honda cancer isnt a main thread in this forum, but like shocker911 said it basically depends on your situation of it all, a part of my quarter panel is rusted and its going to have to be cut off and a new peice of metal put on, because its eaten through and has lost its shape completly
I got my quarter panel replaced on my coupe. it depends if you want to weld or not. there is other ways around to fix the problem. Rust is rust, you really cant escape it. local body shop is gonna rape in the *** to get that **** fixed. If you do decided to bring it in, please tell them not to bondo the ****. Replace it with a brand new quarter panel. rustrepairs.com sells the panels for any car basically. check that site out..
it appears to be approx. 3" x 6" area with a small area completely rusted through.
precisionsc54 where do they sell rear wheel arch? i think that may be the trick here.
i had three honda's and all have gone in the same exact spot!

if you've got an 88-91 CRX, don't buy the panels from rustrepair.com unless you want to do some extensive modification to the arch. I think they were intended for 1st gen CRX's but they carry the same part no. Its doable but it takes quite a bit of labor.
at a shop the first thing wed ask you is how much you wanna spend. Shop procedure would be to examine the extent of the rust pop the spot welds around the area of the rust then cut out proly 6 inch out from the rust examine in the quarter to identify any future problems if ther are, ok with customer to cut out intire quater if nessicary. I can tell you from experince if you got through rust on the quarter already thers a lot more damage in that quater that you cant see that will soon pop up. Id suggest cutting out section and take a look inside. Sectioning a quarter is difficult id almost rather replace a hole qurater.
