D16Z6 timing lines??

Default D16Z6 timing lines??

my book doesn't say where the notches on the block should line up on the crank pulley,

it says there are 3 lines, (red dot) and one line (white dot) farther up,

on a d16z6 where should they line up on the crank, red dot?? 1st 2nd or 3rd or closer to the white dot? ?

just take your sparkplugs out and stick a long skinny screw drive in num#1 cylinder and get the piston top dead center and look at the red and white makers. what ever one is closer is for the win!! but i have never not seen a timing maker on the oil pump. but make sure the up arrow is towards up on the camshaft!! so you dont mess a valve up!

well if your looking for DTC the piston closest to the Tbelt is always #1cylinder and just he said up there but i use the oil dip stick . hope it helps any....

you can do it his ^ way but, I always ALWAYS ever since I just started learning about hondas (about 15yrs ago) find the arrow on the timing cover look straight down on it and line it up with the RED mark and make the cam gear has the "UP" pointing straight up and your in TIME!!!!!! I never use a timing light and never, NEVER had a problem. alot will disagree but I swear it works

yeah... its weird theres not a timing mark, i have always found one.. if not on the oilpump theres one on the timimg cover.

Well no work was recently done and the timing cover is still on.
So idk if the arrow on the cam is pointing up or not.

I was using a timing light, since the engine is not apart.
and am wondering if the "sights" should line up with which "RED DOT" line?
the middle one?

take your harmonic balancer off and there is a lil knoch on one tooth on the crank gear line that one mark on the gear with the one on the timing cover.. then your done.

If your doing your ignition timing then Im pretty sure its the middle... the farther one all by itself is for TDC (top dead center)
Here and since Im such a nice guy.. take a look at this! Your engine is at the bottom basically...
the 1st pic is kind of universal in understanding which notch it is...

it needs to line up with the notch that's in the middle of the group of three notches. i don't remember the color.

pretty sure it's 12 degrees BTDC

Thats what I needed to know!! thanks. btw b15d8's are at 12 btdc, the book states my d16z6 should be at 16 deg. but im sure mine is supposed to line up with the middle line. thanxs!!

No problem. The 12 degrees BTDC I remembered must be from the D15B7 I used to have with my old Civic.
