Default D16Z6 timing lines??

my book doesn't say where the notches on the block should line up on the crank pulley,

it says there are 3 lines, (red dot) and one line (white dot) farther up,

on a d16z6 where should they line up on the crank, red dot?? 1st 2nd or 3rd or closer to the white dot? ?

just take your sparkplugs out and stick a long skinny screw drive in num#1 cylinder and get the piston top dead center and look at the red and white makers. what ever one is closer is for the win!! but i have never not seen a timing maker on the oil pump. but make sure the up arrow is towards up on the camshaft!! so you dont mess a valve up!

you can do it his ^ way but, I always ALWAYS ever since I just started learning about hondas (about 15yrs ago) find the arrow on the timing cover look straight down on it and line it up with the RED mark and make the cam gear has the "UP" pointing straight up and your in TIME!!!!!! I never use a timing light and never, NEVER had a problem. alot will disagree but I swear it works

Well no work was recently done and the timing cover is still on.
So idk if the arrow on the cam is pointing up or not.

I was using a timing light, since the engine is not apart.
and am wondering if the "sights" should line up with which "RED DOT" line?
the middle one?

If your doing your ignition timing then Im pretty sure its the middle... the farther one all by itself is for TDC (top dead center)
Here and since Im such a nice guy.. take a look at this! Your engine is at the bottom basically...
the 1st pic is kind of universal in understanding which notch it is...

No problem. The 12 degrees BTDC I remembered must be from the D15B7 I used to have with my old Civic.
