'01 Odyssey cat gutting?
Hey guys I am wondering if I can knock all the junk outta the cat. converter on my '01 Odyessey and not have any cel. My check engine light is on due to the cat. being no good, my buddy had the same thing on his '03 Altima, he gutted the cat and re-installed and the cel went away...no problems many miles later. Thanks for some input.
Your friend is a liar. He didn't just gut the cat on any OBDII care and not have a DTC stored.
It won't work on your Odyssey.
Plus why would you waste all that platinum?

if i can't gut the cat, then any suggestions? I hear the cat is about $900 to replace? I'de rather have a cel than pay $900 for something I would rather not have on the vehicle anyways. Can I put a test pipe in it and not have a problem? I guess what I am getting at, it what would happen if i gutted the cat or installed a test pipe on it? will the computer know it and shut it down? or nothing? or what?

you would throw a code P0420- catalyst efficiency below threshold. Will not effect performance in any way, but you won't pass emissions.
Here's what you should do-
Make test pipe.
Weld in O2 bung
Install "spark plug anti fouler" into bung and install secondary o2 to that.
Will keep from throwing the code, and no cat in exhaust. Win win.
Then give cat to me to sell

And who buys caty converters? I have a few I'm down to get rid of...plus I live out side of DEQ...so maybe I could come up with some more.
Sure, the exhaust needs to be the same size from the collector back if you want to keep the exhaust pluses in line to create a vacume between them ie scavaging. By "gutting the cat" you loose the scavaging effect because you have a section of pipe thats I.D. is much larger then the rest of the exhaust & the pulses can't line up & bounce around.
There are some great articles on exhaust on Team-Integra.com if anyone is interested.
