Need info on JDM F22B
Ive been looking on HT all day trying to find an answer to why the JDM F22B engine would be a bad investment. I wanted to purchase it due to the quality of metal used for the engine block. I hear its a good engine for boost, but its bad for gaining HP.
What I wanna know is, Is the JDM F22B worth buying and tuning? Why or Why not?

well ive owned one and its a decent motor...same head as an h23...i blew mine within 5000kms however...change the oil and dont rev to 8k and u will not have this problem...a friend of mine had a turbo one on stock internals and he never had a problem with it...however what is your current motor?
Well currently I have the USDM F22A1 and so i thought maybe the F22B would be a direct fit since its an F-series motor. But you know how the H series motors somehow have weaker blocks than the F when it comes to aluminum and iron cast blocks. I like the H23A1 but why wouldn't the U.S. bring the F22B which is in the JDM Prelude Si, I mean I hear they are the same motor. But I wanna know WHAT makes them different?
the F22B will be a direct fit...as it is in any prelude or accord (generation depending)...however not much seperates the F22B from the H23A1 exept the 2mm in bore...they both share aluminum blocks and almost identical heads...i would be prepared to say that the H23 has weaker rod bearing but i wouldnt be suprised to know there the same...both have been knowed (from experience) to have oil pressure problems...
but in your case the f22B will be a step up from the A1...not very much so in torque but in throtle response and a few HP
however why are you planning do to a swap??

Yea I was planning on Swapping in the summer, and I had already been set on getting an H23A1 but then I heard of an identical engine only its JDM, the F22B. So I wanted to compare and contrast the 2 and decide which would be the greater investment.

Hello Yuyodrift91,
There won't be a huge difference between the H23A or F22B. Any JDM engine will be build stronger than the USDM engines. I suggest you go for a H22A DOHC VTEC or H23A DOHC non-VTEC. I think you will ge the best bang for your buck with a H22A however. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

The F22B is a 85mm bore with iron liners, the H23 is 87mm bore with FRM liners. I wouldn't characterize the iron cylinder liners as stronger or anything. It probably won't rip through oil like all of the FRM (H-series) motors do, but that's about it.
Beyond that difference the engines will be largely similar.
If you're going to the trouble of swapping you might as well do H22 unless you're really on a budget.

OP, the F22B is alright. If want to boost later you can add cams and forged pistons to handle the boost. The FRM sleeves fo the H23 makes that much more expensive.
Thats because people seem to think the red line is where it stops making power. I bet 50% of people don't know when their car stops making power anyway.
id like to have a f22b, you never see them and when you do its gets attention, h22a1/4's are all around. i was litteraly 10 seconds from buying a f22b but i found my h22a for 800 dollars less, already dropped into an accord.
valves, cams etc you use h23 parts since its the same head, so parts availability isnt as bad
but it has a open deck, just like 95% of honda motors. closed deck motors are stronger, ive been told many times that even though the h22/3 are FRM, the rod will go long before the block and piston in a boosted application
"Innovation" posted a thread on all of the f and h motors specs, all the bores, strokes, closed/open all of the deck heights etc.

Yes, I'm KINDA on a tight budget and I WOULD swap in a H22 JDM or USDM, it's just that the I hear that the 92 S model of the Prelude does not have the proper wiring for VTEC and so I think have I have to buy the wiring and Vtec solenoid etc. Plus I just found out the 92 prelude has no ABS so that would explain the sliding in the snow issue...bad choice in year model. So I may have to set up ABS for my car which may cost me.
