new engine prime oil pump?
i have a rebuilt motor
and im trying to get oil pressure before i start it
i have been cranking it over(w no spark or fuel) and i havent seen any
oil make its way up too the cams?
how long does it take to prime a pump?
am i doing it right by cranking it over w the starter?

no. . . there is a plug in the side of the oil pump (allen head bolt) pull it out fill the oil pump with oil. this should prime the pump. Atleast on an H22 anyway. other motors should be the same but im not 100%
I usually do it exactly like you describe (you've removed the spark plugs, right?). Crank it over with the starter with the ignition and fuel systems off until the oil light goes off or there is a bit of oil pressure on the oil pressure gauge. IIRC, it only takes cranking the engine over for 10 or 15 seconds to get oil pressure. Reinstall the plugs, turn on the ignition and fuel systems, then start up. Oil pressure usually comes right up to spec after it's started. I've never had a problem with the 4 or 5 Honda engines I've done this way.
