Problem with my G2 Teg...PLease help it won't start
OK,I get in my car yesterday and the car won't start.SO I have my friend give me a jump but I don't even pay attention to the fact that all my electrical stuff is coming on.SO I assume it is my starter since it won't even turn over.So I change my starter with one from NAPA arebuilt one I guess and still nothing but now my radio won't turn on.I have called a shop and they tell me that it sounds like my starter also and they tell me that I may have gotten a bad starter rebuild.Has that happened to anyone? Also somebody said it might be the actual ignition but everything still turns on when I put my key in and turn it just no starting. What's up with that?
Did you check to see if the battery has charge? Make sure the ground and the power wire are hooked up to the starter.
Recently, I was having problems with my car starting intermittently (sp?). I found that the negative terminal was loose. I could get enough juice for the accesories, the starter would click, but it wouldn't start. HTH
check the fuel relay switch. I cant remember the exact location. If that doesnt help then try a new fuel filter. The thing is that our Tegs share the fuel system with the accords of those years. The accords have a problem with the fuel relay switches going bad. HTH
My friends gsr did the same thing. Try changing the ignition switch under the dash that goes to your key. If the car still doesn't start it is most likely because when you tried to start the car you blew the 50 amp ignition fuse in the engine bay fuse box replace this also. It is hard to find the right size 50 amp fuse seeing how most auto parts stores do not carry the ones for 90-93 tegs. so my suggestion is to buy a package of fuse links for a honda civic from your nearest orielys. They will be in the fuse section. Post back to let me know how it goes.
yea first thing check all the fuses..Then check and make sure that your ground is not lose..These are all very common problems with you not getting any power at all..

same thing happened to my 2nd gen and it was my ignition switch but buy it and put it in yourself it is a lot cheaper and it's easy to do.

Let me see.. If I were you...
- (assuming your car has a manual transmission) Turn the key to the start position and push in the clutch. Did it start?
(assuming your car has an automatic transmission) Pull lever into neutral. Did it start?
- Check battery to see if the terminals are clean and if the connections are tight. Did it solve the problem?
- Check to see if the alternator is working. While facing wall, turn on your headlights and use your power window switch to open and close your window. As the lights start to dim, let go of the switch. Did the lights brighten back up? If not, I would replace the alternator.
- Check your muffler, is there a yellow residue or some other residue that's not suppose to be there? If so, change your fuel filter.
- Check to see if the fuel pump works. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and back to off. Did you hear the fuel pump turn on? If not, should be your Fuel Injection Main Relay, but don't settle for just that...
- Check for spark. Pull out the cable for the Number One spark plug and plug another spark plug on it. Next ground the spark plug on to the chassis and turn the key to the ON position. Did you see a little spark?? If not, it's probably your coil or rotor in the distributor or the distributor itself. I would take off the distributor cap and see if the rotor is a bit charred/burnt. If so, change the rotor. If it's not burnt, it's probably your coil. I'm not sure if they sell coils, if not, buy a new distributor. Or if you know a mechanic, ask to borrow a distributor and plug it in to see if it the car starts.
--- It might be both Fuel Injection Main Relay and Distributor, happened to me!---
Hope this helps, if not, good luck..
