i have just put the first 20 miles on my stock rebuilt GSR. When i was driving home the oil light started flashing on every time i stopped and the motor went to its idle speed. but then it started flashing on quickly and randomly. it was only doing this the last mile of its 20 mile history. the oil level was fine and i am not seeing or smelling any leaks. any help would be appreciated.

 

thats scary.. that usually means your oil pumps going bad or you got a bad sensor was the oil pump new or used?

 

it is a new oil pump. it was after market though.... i did replace some sort of oil sensor on the back of the block know that i think about it. i let it run for about 5 mins and drove it around block several times and the light is not coming on. it may only come on for longer trips since it happened in its longest trip of its new life.

 

if its new it could be defectedwhich would really suck a failed oil pump can cause a spun bearing you should deff. check that sensor im thinking it has a bad connection maybe when it gets to hot from a longer trip, check it out make sure its the correct one clean its surface i know its hard to get back there but do it. i always use oem oil pumps although i havent herd of any aftermarket pumps to go bad its not that common my 2 cents says theres something with that sensor check back with us.

 

yeah im a noob and this was my first build.... lots stuff i wish i would have done differently. i will for sure wait to drive it till monday when i can put it on the lift at work... thanks for the advice ill let you know how it went.

 

It could be your oil pick up spout, I took mine out to clean the screen. Didnt correctly torque it and it came loose causing the oil light to flicker on and off. Took the oil pan off to find one of the nuts at the bottom of the pan. Check if your oil spout isn't loose.

 

speaking of oil pick up spout when i was building the motor with a help of a mechanic i noticed the pick up was a little bent along with the oil pan. there was also a oil line added onto the oil pan from a previous turbo build ,but the mechanic said it would be alright to use... dont know if that could have anything to do with it.

 

your oil pump might be taking a ****. and when they go they take things with them
