Default oil light still on!!

ok i just replaced my gsr oil pump with a brand new type-r one. i primed it by cranking the motor about five times(is that enough?). then i started the car expecting the oil light to vanish, but it was still there. im very frustrated. i cleaned the oil pick-up. all i have left to do is change out the sensor. any suggestions on what else to do?

When my oil pump got replaced it took about 5 - 8 seconds after cranking the car for the light to go off. Mine was also primed to.

On my 2 liter we cranked it a good 20-30 seconds before the oil light turned off.

I always pack my oil pump with light white litium grease to make it very easy to pickup the oil prime very early. This does not damage any thing due the small voulme of grease used. It just pushes right trough.

The sensor is simply a switch. Checking it is easy... if you have a digital meter. Check for continuity through the sensor, from the terminal to the case. With no pressure the resistance will be very low (the switch is closed in order to turn on your oil light.) When oil pressure is present, the switch will be open.

Another thing to check is that you don't have a wiring short to ground, which could also turn on the oil light. Unplug the oil pressure sensor to make sure the light goes out. Don't forget to plug it back in...
