Default Smog help

I am having a problem with smog. I have a P28 computer and it is dumping fuel into my b20. The car is a 95 gsr. It is running rich and my emissions are high. I do not know if I can change my computer or reprogram the one I have. Is there any one that can help me? I am only working with $200 and I just want to get my car on the road so I can work and provide for my family.

the cheapest way, although not ideal, would be to swap in a 94-95 LS ecu. i think it would probably run ok and pass.

the best way would be to get that p28 tuned with something like chrome. i bet you could take it to a shop and get it chipped with at least a baseline for a b20 for relatively cheap.

Can I just plug that LS computer in or do I have to do more? Also my cel does not light up when the car is started. Any Ideas? I was guessing it was disconected. Another reason I am failing is because my timing is 16 degrees at 750 rpm. Yeah A b20 in CA; most smog technitians can not tell the difference. I will do what ever it takes to get this car on the street.

assuming the smog tech doesn't realize that you have a b20 in there, i think just pluggin in the LS ecu would work. it's not gonna be perfect for the b20 but it will run better than your untuned p28 and most likely be ok for smog.

someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but i've heard the LS ecu runs a b20 pretty well.

I would think so since the specs are simular, but If it runs my car a little lean could that damage my engine? Do you thing the LS computer will fix my CEL? What could be the problem with my CEL?

using a stock p28 on a b20 i imagine could throw all kinds of cel's. off the top of my head it's not seeing the vtec stuff it was intended to.

the LS ecu may run it slightly lean i'm not sure i've never tried it, which is why i said the best way to get it running right is to chip that p28 and at least get a baseline tune for a b20.

either way, running way too much fuel isn't good for your engine or your cat either. untuned for your engine, that p28 is running in limp mode which retards timing and runs way rich.

if it were me (i'll be doing this when i finally get my gsr swap in), i would get 2 chips burned. 1 normal for performance and 1 for emissions.

They guy I bought my car from said it was tuned well. The car runs great so I had no reason to believe other wise, but since Im only getting 16 miles per gallon its probably not right? Do you think it would be possible to Fix my CEL with my p28 computer?
