Default oil light issues

hey i own a 98 prelude and ive been having this prob for a while. ever since i revd my car the oil light stays on no mater what i do it stays on i dont thing it can be bad pressure because it would of gotten worse by now. (this started at least 3 months ago) i never had the time to take it to a shop to have them look at it. but what are some suggestions that you guys can give me on what is going on. ive checked other threads but non are similar to my problem.
thank.

Oil pressure switch going bad? Have you checked your oil pan for any big dents?

You're a noob, so I'll be the one to ask. Do you have 5qts of oil in your engine? Also, when was your last oil change? Does your car leak oil? Are you getting a Check Engine Light as well?

no there ere no dents that i can see and im a noob but not an idiot, yes ther are 4.8 or so qrts of oil that is the amount it takes according to the factory service manual. and i cange my oil ever 2500 or so miles. but yes my check engine lite is on to but when i use the scan the obd scanner it says that i have a misfire on all my cylinders which i think is a bogus read because i think you would be able to feel it and it only flashes once i hit v-tech on second until i turn of the car. so i don't think it has something to do with the oil and ive been riding with the light on for about 2 months so if it had low pressure because the engine would of been gone.

It only happens after you hit VTEC? Maybe bad oil pressure sensor.

so, it's not a bad read on your engine code...

when you say you revved your car, how high did you rev? are you having to add oil? i know that your light should have gone off, but i'm just wondering if you hurt anything in your valvetrain.

good luck with it

well i dont know how high but i think like past 4 grand probably. is that too much? um and yea i do have to add oil but its normal its not burning it too bad. and also what could i have broken in the valvetrain like springs or retainers or a bent valve. i just think that it might be out of timing idk. but the car runs fine until vtec is engaged on 2 and up.

I wouldn't run it to vtec until you get it straightened out. It'll make your bad problems now much worse. If it runs fine out of vtec, your valvetrain is fine. Don't go run it, but...what happens when you hit vtec? can you run it all the way to redline? If not, you may not have a problem at all except for a sensor. I'd check on that oil pressure sensor like graphite said. If you computer isn't sure if you have the oil pressure to hit vtec(vtec is engaged by the oil), it may be just bogging your motor when you start to hit the vtec. Check that sensor.

Not sure if you know, but you've got a vtec oil pressure switch and a vtec solenoid. It may be the solenoid has crapped out. The solenoid is gonna control your oil flow and pressure for the vtec operation. Something to think about. You've already changed the switch and had no change. You change your oil every 2500 miles so, it couldn't possible be the actual oil issue. I've seen a couple of vtec issues at work as a result of low oil or someone not changing their oil at the recommended intervals. I work at a Honda dealership, by the way. Your hand held scanner isn't gonna lie to you, either. Trust me. Just because you can't out right feel a misfire, doesn't meant it's not happening. You can have a fuel related misfire, ignition related misfire, or an egr related misfire. I think a vacuum leak will cause a misfire, as well. So can a blown head gasket. Water in the cylinder, fouling the plug up.

so you think it might be the vtec solenoid...i thought it was kust that it might of jumped a tooth or two on the timming belt. would any one know a good place to ave someone cheack out mu prelude to see if thats the prob. Im in south Florida. oh and how much would it cost to change the vtec solenoid.and i dont belive that there is a vacume leak cause i checked all the hoses. i cant do any major repairs cause i got limited time and tools... so a shop would be nice
