Fresh rebuild b18b1 missing / chugging
Fresh rebuild on a b18b1, all stock internals and everything, first start up was fine but while its idleing, it chugs like its missing. Spark or fuel. Haven't really got a chance to look into it, maybe the firing order is off? What does everyone think?
Chugging as in it’s a got a "lope" like a v8? I'd say check your distributer/plugs/wires. I had a friend with a b16 that did the same thing until I popped one of his plug wires back on the distributer and it ran fine after that. Turns out he bought wires that had been messed up in shipping, or during installation.
and it does sound like a pissed off v8
tried messing with the firing order, nothing
tried changing spark plugs, nothing
tried advancing and retarding the timing, nothing
kinda confused, what else could i try?

If your timing belt is off by three notches, that is your problem. You can't fix a timing belt that is off by three teeth by adjusting the distributer.
If you went back and checked your timing and made sure your at TDC, and you still have the same issues, then I’d say it’s not timing unless you did something wrong. Check and make sure everything is plugged up correctly. You just don’t lose a cylinder (the reference to the "loping") without some sort of sign leading up to it.
Also if your timing on the cams is off I don’t think messing with the distributer will fix that issue (unless i am wrong). Jack the car up, disconnect the Coil pack, take the crank to TDC then remove the valve cover (if you don’t have it cut to view the gears) and make sure. You don’t want an issue down the road with timing. Bad juju.

same problem... with the car running... pull each plug wire 1 at a time and see if the engine changes idle. if the car continues to run like it has been with no difference, you have a bad wire... I have the same problem!
*Be careful not to touch the wire itself, just the part that has a handle type of thing.

just got done doing a compression test on all 4 cylinders, all 4 were consistant, and tomorrow will be a vacume / timing light. thanks guys
so the timing light turned out to be broke. we took off the valve cover, and completely retimed it to tdc with 2x screw drivers in the cam shafts and got everything back together, now the car will not start, its acting like a dead battery, so we put the charger on it and it still sounds the same when we crank it. maybe now its the firing order?
Damn bro that sucks. I was going to say maybe try a valve lash adjustment. I just got done doing one on my d16y8 that used to "chug" at idle now it drives like a caddy (not really lol). Bump for this man.
