Tipps for tapping stainless steel ??? anyone
Quick question what are some tipps on tapping stainless.
Im trying to tapp a M8x1.25 hole in a wastegate flange and its supper hard and i think im gonna snapp my tapp . I know stainless is hard due to its nickel content.
What are some ideas.

use cutting oil. feed the tap in a bit, then back it out a bit, feed it in a bit more, then back out to clear the chips and so on. you also want to make sure your tap is nice and square to the hole.

anchor lube works excellent on stainless steels. A lot better than regular cutting oil. Keep backing the tap out as you go.. Double check your tap drill size
I would completely remove the tap and clean the chips out with air or brake clean...dont forget to clean the tap off and reapply oil......Have you ever had to drill a tap out? its like dry butt seks, by the time your done you've said every bad word in the book and your *** is sore...it might be worth taking to a machine shop or fab shop
