first start high pich whine noise
ok so today i traveled to look at the s2000 that i put a down payment on. i cant get it yet cause i live in PA and the roads are bad and i couldnt even test drive it (damn snow). so i get to the dealer and they have it in the garage. its a 2000 s2000 with 100,000miles. im 18 years old so this doesnt bother me. but when i started it up there was a high pitch like whining noise coming from somewhere under the hood. it almost sounded like a fan running. but by the time i relized it and started to look for the noise it stopped making it. has anyone ever experiecned this before. it has an aem cold air intake on it and the rest is stock. its seen its better days but hey im 18 and i talked them down to $7,500. has clean carfax and clear title. looks like one corner panel had some work done to it at one point but other then that its a amazing car. if anyone can help me out that would be great. thanks

that is normal, its your fuel pump relay (if im correct)
it does this for about 20 seconds and turns off, then again for another 2 seconds

Yes sir it's you air pump located under the driverside headlight, and it will come on an off when you first start the car basically untill it warms up, nothing to worry about on the other hand be worry if you don't hear it at all but if that happends your check engine light will come on.
Your all good , go get it.

NO IT DOESN'T! Where are you getting this advise from man?
It's your secondary air pump. It pumps air into your exhaust manifold to prevent your catalytic converter from overheating thus shortening it's lifespan. And yes it is on early AP1's as well. You can remove the pump setup, but you will have a CEL. This will prevent you from passing emissions testing, if you have them in your area.

Different "whine noise" question: I have a 2001 S2k with 96k miles. It has a noticeable whine (like a bearing noise) that increases with speed. It changes loudness and pitch only with vehicle speed. It does not matter whether I am accelerating or decelerating, rocking from side to side, braking, or even if the engine is turned off and I'm still moving at 35mph. All 4 calipers have been removed and wheels rotated listening for bearing noise. Tranny and differential fluid are topped up, smell ok, and show no evidence of metal particulate. Have tried jacking first one rear wheel and then the other and running up to some speed, but still cannot replicate the problem while jacked. I think I have eliminated wheel bearings, tranny bearings (except perhaps rear bearing), differential bearings (except perhaps carrier bearings), brakes, and other stuff that I can think of. Any diagnostic suggestions would be gratefully received.
