Default Mini-Me Question

I'm going to do a mini-me swap on my car soon, and have a question. From what I've heard I need either a V-AFC or a P28 ecu in order to make the vtec work correctly. I could use a RPM activated switch, but I've heard that since that doesn't adjuts fuel levels it can hurt my engine. Is this true? I can afford everything right now, except a V-AFC or ECU. What if I installed the head and everything right now, and just didn't hook up the vtec. Then when I can afford it I can get a new ECU. Would this hurt my engine at all? Obviously my performance wouldn't be great, but I'm not worried about that right now, I just want to make sure it won't hurt my engine.

I think you can get a cheap one off ebay.

You will be running lean which CAN hurt your engine and doesn't do much for power either.
