Default BAR a jdm b16

Alright..I tried, but, Searching hurts.

I just completed my engine swap! I goal is to BAR leagal it.
I swapped a JDM B16A 92-93
Converted OBD0 to OBD1
Running a PR3 ecu.
I believe, if I'm correct, everything is stock to JDM spec but the conversion harness.

So to pass State Ref...(I've heard)
- Do I need a USDM intake manifold?
- Do i need a USDM dizzy?

I remember from back in my 240 days, that JDM engines could not be barred, due to emmisions. I heard that you can only bar USDM motor swaps. IIRC you cannot even bar cars anymore at all in California. And I thought the state ref was shut down, or am I mistaken?

jdm b16 can be bar'd. i got mine to pass visual and test

you need to convert to 94-95 usdm del sol specs.
obd1 throttle body, either the US p30 manifold or skunk2 with working purge solenoid, usdm p30 ecu.

you distributor is fine as long as its timed to spec

The stock throttle body won't pass? Why not? Won't fit?

yea you need a USDM P30 your PR3 will not pass smog. and depending on the ref some of them do not like jumper harnesses.

You can BAR a foreign engine as long as it has a domestic equivalent...the SR20 doesn't have one, but we did get a ODB1 B16 car in the US, the del Sol VTEC.

On that note, from what I've heard from people who've done it, the way to BAR a B16A is to convert everything to 94-95 ODB1 del Sol VTEC spec (B16A3). You'll need the del Sol ECU. Depending on the ref station they might not be picky on the dizzy and intake manifold. There's a great thread where everyone gives their experience with ref stations, what engine they used, how they passed, etc. With the crappy search and only a vague memory I can't find it though

the throttle body needs to be the one with the MAP sensor on top.

- You need USDM intake manifold. JDM counterpart does not have EVAP purge solenoid connection.
- You need USDM OBD1 ECU. That's the first thing they check.
- Dizzy is not a problem. I don't even know if the JDM dizzy is any different.
- Conversion harness is not a problem. But if one gives you problem, take it to a different ref station.
- Need a working CAT. Check your timing (16 +-2).

Oh yeah, get it BAR'd. It's only $8 now and you have unlimited trials.

It's worth it IMO. Cops in Cali are cracking down hard on illegal jdm motor equipped Honda's.

i've just recently started in the finishing stages of a JDM B16A swap into my 93 DX sedan...if i understand what was written above ^^, then my JDM IM won't have a place for the EVAP sensor to connect because there isn't an EVAP solenoid? i was wondering because i the harness i'm using is from the stock D15B7 and has a sensor for the EVAP and i have no where to put it on the B16...thanks for the help

It's for a 94-95 USDM Delsol Vtec intake manifold. #17 is the Evap Purge Solenoid. One vacuum hose goes to the nipple on the back of the manifold, other vacuum hose goes to the charcoal canister. The plug on your harness will connect to that sensor.

The JDM manifold won't have the place for the solenoid or the extra nipple on the back of the manifold.

If you solenoid looks anything like that one, you can reuse it on the B16A. They're all the same, even for the GSR.

stock. obd1 LS, b16, gsr and might be able to get away with a itr one.

I used the JDM intake manifold on my B16 to get it Bar'd. You just need to mount the evap. purge control valve on the JDM manifold and add the associated vacuum port.

On my manifold the "tabs" for the valve and vacuum port were already cast into the manifold. I just drilled and tapped the hole for the valve mounting screw. Then I found some metal tubing that the vacuum hose would fit over, drilled a hole for the tubing in the back of the manifold where the vacuum line is on the USDM manifold, and pressed in the tube.

I wasn't able to find a B-series USDM throttle body before my scheduled ref. appointment so I used a D16Z6 throttle body I had. It bolts right up and looks the same.

if you are really worried, check with the ref beforehand.
