honda idling problem? drops rpm??? need HELP!!
ok i got a 02 civic non-vtec.
and yesterday my sister was driving and as she was speeding up the car started to jerk and pretty much misfiring and the battery light came on so didnt the check engine light. well thats what she says
today i tried to connect a scan tool to it and it cant find a connection???
weird!
and when you start the car it misfires like crazy the shifter locks so you cant shift out of park! and pretty much its a mess!
so today i figured it was a ground somewhere.
i cleaned the terminal from the battery and the connections on the body and the engine!
after that the car runs much better it doesnt seem to misfire or anything and the shifter doesnt lock!
although!
every about 3-5 seconds it like bogs out for a second! like the rpms drop and the check engine light comes on and so doesnt the battery.
all in that same second then it goes back to normal idling and the check engine light is off......
also during that second it sounds like the computer clicks! or maybe its the shifter??? idk their both relatively in the same place!
any ideas???
thanks!

Start with the basics:
Clean your IACV. (Idle Air Control Valve)
Make sure everything on your exhaust, near the O2 sensors, is tight. (with good gaskets)
Test the battery and alternator to make sure they're operating within normal limits.
You already checked the grounds.
And, please, search next time. Idle/idling issues have been well covered before. The most common issue is a dirty, or clogged IACV. If you need help searching, click This Link. There's a how-to at the bottom of the page.

i investigated a little and found out that the clicking noise seems to be coming from a brown relay.
located behind the glove compartment. there are three relays blue brown and black....
anyone know what these relays are???
tomorrow ill try taking one out of my other civic see if it fixes anything?
anyone have any other ideas why there seems to be that loss of power for that short amount of time???
anyone???????

honestly thats pretty weird but i would start with cleaning the iacv and then make sure all the air in the cooling system is bled out but bout the clicking that could be it tell us what happens
so why doesnt the scanner connect to the pcm... thats probobly the weirdest... because im pretty sure ive connected it before and i tried all my other cars and it works so is there a chance my computer broke??
just wondering what would happen if the pcm broke or something?
the car shouldnt start right?? im hoping its just the relay if not i found a pcm for 35 bucks so its not too much!!
it was way better to hear that, then when i have to get parts for my S500!! haha

Air in the cooling system will cause it to overheat, not idle funny. And it would be more of a gurgling/bubbling sound than a clicking one. (someone knowledgeable correct me if I'm wrong here.)

oh sweet thanks guys i greatly appreciate your help!!!
im guessing next time i buy a computer its cheaper to just get the immobilizer with it huh?
i mean its $101 bucks to reprogram the computer at the dealer.
and if the computer is 35 im sure the immobilizer will be like 20...??
so i could have saved like 80 bucks!
or is there another safety feature involve in this antitheft system??
