Default building my 1st motor, need some info.

Well to start off id like to say I just graduated lincoln Tech a few months ago and been working for BMW the entire time I was a student. Now im working at the airport. Any how I've never really built a motor other then in class and we had shop key, all data and all that. Oh and of corse we were building stock speck motors. How ever I am building a B20vtec for my daily driver and I want higher compression and buit head along with built bottom end. My question is, would it be alright using the specs found in the chilton's, Hayne's and Helms manuals? If not please lead me in the direction as to where I can find the specs for a performance built motor, which im pretty sure ill need tighter clearences then stock do to what i am building it for and what im puttin in it.

Looser specs will aid in better oil flow and cooling abilities. But honda's specs are pretty damn good.
