What Primer do i need?
I want to prime my beatdown looking 4 door. Where and what kind of primer should I get? I am looking for something that will last bout a month or 2. I have funds to paint but work got slow. So I am going to make this car all one color for now. Suggestions?
Ill second that, before spraying wetsand with 400 and then 600, don't take to bare metal, primer is porous and will absorb moisture and cause rust. Unless you don't mind fixing it before you paint. But just a word of advice to prevent any work that's not needed
I suggest a gun, it'll cost more than a rattle can, but you'll have better results as well. But as far as cans, the best I've used is the duplicolor sandable automotive primer for small painting jobs. But like I said, for doin a whole car I'd reccomend pickin up a decent gravity fed hvlp gun.

I did my front bumper with Duplicolor primer, paint and clear coat. Everything laid out perfect except the clear got bubbly after a few weeks.

Probably not, just the best I've used for small stuff. I don't use it for automotive, just misc. stuff around the house. I don't even look for auto paint in rattle cans. If ur gunna do it, do it once and do it right.
Thanks for the info. Ive been reading up and am debating on painting my 4door my self. How big of a compressor would I need and what type of gun would be best if painting in my garage?
Also what kind of filler do you recommend? Any tips you can share with me. I more interested in doing the body work and getting it down right.

the best option is to goto a outdoor rental company and rent a GAS powered compressor get something that can shoot 15scfm at a good pressure like 90psi. also as for choosing a gun go on ebay and buy a DevilBliss finishline kit with 3 tips. honestly its the best bang for the buck and cheap at around $130-$160. you can prime, base, and clear with this kit.
as for filler get some RAGE metal glaze or evercoat metal glaze.

Look into using Spraymax products. They have quality products in a spraycan that use a separate canister inside the can for hardener. It makes the primer just like the high quality stuff the body shops use. Check this link out: http://www.repaintsupply.com/cat_spraymax.cfm
I bought some of the clearcoat here awhile back and this stuff is amazing. I painted the grille of my truck and then sprayed this clear on and it looked great. I was very impressed. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that it has a pot life after you press the button for the hardener to mix in. It was about 14 hrs I think. I read somewhere that you might be able to put it in the fridge and get a bit more life. I just used up the whole can on my grille so I don't know that's true or not.
