Default Timing belt- head rebuild NEED HELP!!

Hello again everyone. I have a 92 civic with a bit of a problem.

I removed the head to do lap the valves and such. everything is right with the head now, and i'm putting it back on. When i took the head off, i made a mark on the belt and the cam pulley, and simply slid the timing belt off of the pulley. I was told by my local honda mechanic that the belt WILL NOT move, and i've even tried to GET it to move, but it simply won't budge, so i'm fairly sure that as long as i line up my marks again, all will be right with the motor. Here's the problem: I can't get the belt to go back onto the pulley, and i'm deathly afraid of damaging the belt by prying it back on there. The belt was only replaced about 5000 miles ago, so it's in good shape (unless there's something i don't know). From what i understand, you can't reach the tensioner without removing the engine mount, but i'm sort of a noob with this car, so if you guys have any tricks for me to try, i'm open to suggestions.

Also, when i'm done putting the head on, i intend to bring the engine to (cyl 1) top dead center to verify that it's timed correctly. Are there any timing marks on the crank pulley that you can see from outside? Like marks that you would use a timing light with?

Anyone that can help me will be so very very appreciated. It's sad that rebuilding the head was the EASY part! lol

Thanks again everyone!

yes, no. 1 is at top for tdc and on the cam gear will be 2 marks across from each other flat, a word "up" on top and a mark the in lower diag corner. To get head in sync, make sure the two flat marks are flat vertically, the word up is straight up and the lower diag mark should line up with a arrow on the plastic surrounding gear on the bottom of it. You'll more than likely have to get the tensioner undone which can be reach from the bottom

so the tensioner can be reached from underneath? as in removing the wheel and accessing it from there? also, is there a mark on the crank pulley that i can use to find where TDC is? i wouldn't imagine you'd have to take the crank pulley off to find the timing mark, would you? i know on lots of other cars, there's a notch visible from the outside that you would use with a timing light, but i don't know where it is on the pulley.

Thanks so so much for your reply!!

Yes, i believe i've got to the tensioner with the wheel off. Theres mark for the bottom end as well. You have to take the crank pulley off, t-belt cover, then the cog gear that the t-belt goes around. When your at that point: there is a mark on the shaft (although it could be on the cog gear, either way itll be on the face of it so you'll see it), and theres a arrow on the oil pump (to the right, maybe up a little, you cant miss it). Simply like the mark (its a dot, either on face of timing cog or crank shaft) with the arrow on the oil pump

I appreciate your help very very much! Another question now would be, how do you time the ignition if there is no mark on the outside? You wouldn't really be able to use a timing light with the crank pulley off, that's why i figured there would be a mark on the pulley in plain view. What do you do to time the ignition?

actually on the crank pulley is a set of 3 marks (on the outside of course. If you look down the side of the t belt cover you will see a set of sights that are exactly like gun sights. To time: trip the ecu service connector (reffer to the sticky at the top of the forum for cel's), hook timing gun up to No.1, look down the sights of the t belt cover down to the crank and use the light. Rotate distributor to get desired timing (should be the middle mark)

There is no Top Dead Centre mark on the pulley on the outside? Some people on other places online are talking about there being 4 marks, the furthest right of which is the TDC mark. I guess all i really can do is go take a look tomorrow morning.

I can't tell you the way i appreciate all of your input. thanks so much!

Its all good, thats what h-t's for lol. But the tdc mark for the bottom end is at the oil pump (so you take the crank pulley off and tbelt cover off), the ign timing marks are on the crank pulley, and the tdc marks for the head are on the face of the cam gear (there are 2 of these {-} that will be horizontal and one "up" at the top and one of these {-} but on the 7-8 o'clock position. Im hittin the hay though, its 1:18am where im at lol. if you dont get it, get back on here
