bent valve? money shift. help!
soo yea i money shifted from fourth in to third the other night on my b18c swapped ek(on the highway pulling on a vr6). i cough it before it it hit the limiter but now i have a little tick and my exhaust chugs a little sound like a wrx. but the thing is it runs fine and i feel no power loss i just don't what it to arise other problems....plus i hate the sound of a tick. what can and should i do in this situation.
do a leak down or compression test across the cylinders to determine static combustion pressure across the cylinders. This will determine if one has internal issues.
A diagnostic test where you pump air into a cylinder and measure how much of the air "leaks" out of the combustion chamber. Up to, say, 10% is acceptable.
This test is more useful than a simple compression test, because it can help you determine exactly where the lost compression is going...ie past rings, intake or exhaust valves. You simply listen at the intake manifold (in valves), exhaust pipe (ex valves), or dipstick (rings) for the sound of air escaping.
For my money, the best diagnostic tool you can use for top end problems.
