Default built ls head rev limit

I know that because of the way the ls head is made compared to a vtec head it is not safe to rev too high. With valves, springs, and retainers what is thye highest safe rev limit for an ls head.

depends when you get your car tuned where does it stop making power on the dyno graph no reason to go any higher.

It's really the cam/spring relationship that determines max RPMs for the valvetrain...and weight of course, blah blah blah, but for the general Honda guy it's determined by what cams and what valve springs you use. Most aftermarket vlavesprings are stable to 10K+ rpms where the heavier ones, as offered by companies like Supertech and Skunk2 are good for much further.
Now the thing I'm not sure about is the rocker design. I don't know how that affects valvetrain stability and max RPMs.
All that said, you're probably not going to be able to over-rev aftermarket valvetrain, especially with an LS head...unless you do something stupid and try.

Because of the "rocker on ball" system used on the ls/b20 around 8500 is the common answer.Generally speaking they will spit the rockers out if you push them much more than that.

as mentioned, i agree with the notion that where the thing stops making power, use that as a guide to see what kind of upper rpm limit you have. hopefully, the cams you are using are degreed well and your cam gears are zeroed so you don't have some out of whack powerband that needs to rev super high.....

I have crower valve terain. As far as spring pressure Im not sure. Never dynoed it just street tuned so dont know when power falls off. Fells like around 8300. The reason I ask is because I dont want to have to hit 5th in the 1/4 with my gsr tranny.

well, peeping a curve is one thing that dynos are good for. i def think you should throw it on a reliable dyno and get a graphic represenation of your curve. it's the most failsafe method of discerning where it stops making power.

i knew that this was a potential problem, but i ddint know you could get 8500 out of it before it came into play. either way i think its the limiting factor not springs/retainers etc.

DSMs have a similar design. Rather the Rocker having a ball that mates to a socket in the head, they have hydraulic lifters with a tip that mate to the rockers...with that in mind, why can they then rev to 10k RPMs?
Hmm...
