Default d16z6 in 92 cx....

ok i think ive made up my mind about not fixing the smoking cx engine...What all do i need to swap in a d16z6 in my 92cx hatch.. I might have to keep the cx tranny in so will it work...how much wiring willl be involved?? Im goona do a gsr swap when i get the loot..but i need something to drive for the time being... I called a local junkyard and i can get the engine /ecu/wiring harness...but minus tranny for 700 bucks not sure on the mileage yet...is it worth it?? ANybody know where i can get the whole swap cheaper?? By the way i used the search and couldnt find any help....thanks.....

Check the classifieds for people who swaped out their d16z6. Buy the whole swap also. The tranny makes the motor and if you put the cx tranny on your not gonna like the swap. Since you have a 92 you won't have to add any wires. Pull out the complete cx swap and drop in the d16z6 swap. Use the z6 harness and mounts and everything. Plug it in and fire it up. Since your cx has a close coupled cat and the dx/si/ex/lx doesn't, you'll end up losing the cat but uness you have smog checks I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

I paid a grand total of $500 for my swap out of a 93 del sol si. The guy even drove it 120 miles to my house for free. I went from high 16's to a 15.2 90mph with the swap which took 7 hours including a well balanced meal in the middle.

You don't even have to add a wire for the vtec?

so i dont have to wire it for vtec ...its just gonna be plug and play?? and my cx axles will still work with the swap?? Do these motors last longer than cx engines as far as not smoking at 153000 miles...the cx shift linkage will also stilll work??
thanks...

The whole swap is plug and play. All 92 Civic's were prewired for VTEC. 93-95 weren't, unless VX, EX, Si. Your axels from the CX will work. I agree with buying a full swap. That way everything you swap out should be around the same milage. I have the same swap right now.

Mine came out of my friends car that was stolen, then wrecked.

Try these sites. Prices are a little high though.

http://www.SOHfast.com
http://www.ardperformance.com
http://www.hondamotorsonline.com
http://www.nippon-motors.com

I'm in need of a motor too. Can't find anything local, so thinkin' about ordering from one of these companies. SOHfast has been the friendliest, but high prices. If ya talk to any of them, lettem' know you found out about them here on HT.

You do need the d16z6 egine harness because the Cx harness has the one wire O2 sensor as opposed to the d16z6 harness which uses the four wire heated O2 sensor.

actually i had a 95 cx and vtec wires had to be added. they didnt all come prewired.

i recommend the si/ex tranny. it will make a BIG difference with the closer gears. you will thank yourself afterwards. paid 600 for my complete swap. i am sure you can find them even cheaper. like someone else mentioned, just keep an eye out for someone that wants to go DOHC... goodluck

Yes the 92's are wired for VTEC- only two things to note, you may have to extend/re route your MAP sensor wires depending on which year motor you get. Your 92 probably has the MAP sensor on the firewall where newer motors are on the throttle body- no big deal. Also, the driver's side motor mount MAY be required. Some 94-95 motors have the aluminum mount with 2 nuts and 1 bolt that bolt to the block mount. Your 92 will have the two nut style (black) mount. You will know what I mean when you see it. Just be sure to get the aluminum mount if it is needed because they are not cheap.
