hi guys, i have had this car for over 8 years now. i usually work on this car my self kept regular maitenance the whole time. i did notice that there was oil leak but it was not like it would leave a puddle or some thing. may be half a quart or so in a month or so. but now i have noticed a shiny spot under my car and i think its getting bigger every day. plz guide if i can stop this leaking, what can i do. i have heard that it is caused from a bad gasket between the engine and transmission. plz help.

 

If it's like me and other 5th gen owners, its the oil pan gasket. It's due to the exhaust pipe running so close to the oil pan. Therefore heating up the rubber gasket making it hard and brittle.

Solution is to change the oil pan gasket. I did this about 2 weeks ago on my 96 Accord. Kinda easy job for what is it, just tedious.

 

I'd put it up in the air and inspect the vicinity of the Oil Filter.
You have two components which can leak from there.
Oil Filter
Oil Pressure Switch (mounted just above the Oil Filter)

If there's a lot of oil under there making it difficult to spot the offending leak, wash the bottom off with a couple of cans of brake clean; road test it and re-inspect it again.
