Default 92-95 Civic Igntion Assembly Compatibility

well my 95 Honda Civic hatch Si was stolen and was recovered. The ignition lock assembly (the part that locks the steering wheel when keys is out of ignition cylinder) was totally destroyed. So I went to the junkyard and found out that alot of the junkyards here have tons of 92-95 Civics. But the thing is that most of these cars in the lot are 4 spd automatic. And because of this reason, I am unsure if I can use any of these Ignition Lock assembly. I also checked with honda and they said it was a different parts number. So can anyone confirm with me either I can use the part or not. Or have any past experience with it?

I just called Honda and they said they don't just sell the ignition cylinder (where key goes in to turn car on) I have to buy the whole Ignition Assembly. Is that true? I heard you can just buy the ignition cylinder w/ keys.

The automatic ignition lock assemblies are different than the manual versions, but they will work. The only difference is the shift interlock that prevents you from removing the key unless the vehicle is in park. So long as its not connected it will not pose any problems for you. Ideally get the entire lock set so you only need one key. I'm pretty sure honda only sells the entire assembly.

so what if I already pick up the whole ignition assembly from the junkyard but it doesn't comes with key? so are you telling me that its pretty much worthless to get the whole ignition assembly with no key? since I can't just buy the key cylinder from honda?so what can I do about it?

Pretty much yeah. Unless you can get a locksmith to cut a key for you. About the only other thing you can do is write down the vin of the car in the junkyard and go to your local honda dealership and get a key cut off the vin, only thing is they often want proof of ownership which is obviously pretty difficult to get.

Go to the junkyard and get a lock assembly with the key. Any junkyard I ever went to generally had the keys in the ignition or the trunk lock.

so there's no way to just buy the key cylinder without replacing the whole ignition assembly?

Not sure about your other questions, but it was mentioned that any 92-95 civic ignition cylinder should work and I'm adding to that.

93-95 Del Sol ignition cylinders should also work, and possibly 96-97 Del Sols (I don't know if they changed the ignition cylinder after 95)

I'm in the same situation. Someone stole my keys to a 93 del sol and I need to replace it. The car is worth only around 1.5k. I was quoted 150 for forging a new key for the car. And since the trunk uses a different key combo, thats 300 together.

I always thought junkyard would sell a ignition cylinder+key and trunk lock set. apparently thats not the case.

The dealer will make you a new key using your VIN number for like $2. Just take your registration in with you, you'll have to prove you own it.

Also, trunk shouldn't use a different key... maybe you've been trying to use the valet key?

GREAT! Thanks for the info. If thats the case, I'll order the thing from dealer.....and then leave some warning for this shop on google, cartalks and other places. They're a$$holes for quoting me 3-400.

The reason why the car has diff keys for ignition and trunk is because it was salvage. So for sure the key is not original. So I want the cylinder, the trunk lock and the key this time.
And freakasis mentioned that its only 80. Anyway, I really do not believe the quote of 3-400 from the shop. I rather go hunt the junkyard myself. But it seems the junkyards do not sell this kind of combo....still gotta try.
