Just wanted some opinions on the new Spec Stage 3+ clutch. Looks to be a really nice unit. I searched a while ago and found only one short thread on it so i'm making a new one. It's a full face disc which looks like it would be friendly for tranny's. Disc is made out of carbon metallic and the unit claims to hold 400 ft-lbs and be very streetable. I'm considering it but would like some second opinions. Car is making 360 whp and 260 wtq right now but that may change in the future so i'd like a clutch that can handle an upgrade.

Also curious as to what flywheel i should go with. Right now i have an 8lb flywheel in the car and it would fall out of boost fast. Spec doesn't say what their flywheels weigh. I'm thinking more of an 11-14 lb flywheel this time around. Open to all opinions! Keep it on topic though!

Im using a CM stg3 on my turbo setup at around 400whp with no troubles at all. it even survived a bunch of 300-320ft/lbs pulls. very nice for daily driving.

im sure the spec cluth will work well as long as you are not hard on the launches it should last a long time.

 

funny you mention that. I have a stage 3 clutchmasters in the car right now and i love it! Clutch is starting to get a little thin though and i'm gettting a new trans over winter so I figured it's time for a new clutch. I'm debating just going with another CM stage 3 but i'm curious about these spec clutches. The car is mostly just for cruising/enjoyment on the street but will see the track as well.

 

there are 2 versions of the stage 3 from clutch-masters. the disc's are the same but they have a upgraded more heavy duty pressure plate so it should take some good power.

i had the original CM stage 3 and changed to the heavy duty stage 3 setup at the beginning of the summer. pedal feel was only "slightly" heavier. hardly noticeable at all.

i love this clutch too......the best for daily driving and it can take a good amount of power as long as you don't abuse the crap out of it.

 

I'm using the Spec Stage 3+ on a 92 hatch with 525whp-425wtq. Usual daily driving is @ 400whp & 310 wtq. I changed over from a Tilton twin because it was way too grabby/harsh for street use. Pedal pressure is much closer to stock feeling and it engages just about like a stock one. The car is so much more fun to drive and no real problems with it falling out of boost.

That's what i'm talkin about That's why i'm really looking into the stage 3+. Seems like it can handle a ton of power and like i said it's still a full faced disc so it's gotta be pretty tame as far as engagement goes like purpleh22 said. What flywheel are you using? The spec flywheel? and how much does it weigh if you know?

 

bump for more opinions on the spec clutch. What flywheel you guys think would be well rounded for my application. Like i said earlier i would fall out of boost a little bit with the 8 lb flywheel i currently have. Thinking about just getting a itr flywheel (14lbs)

 

I used the Spec flywheel. Don't know what it weighs for the H22. It was light weight & steel.

 

my flywheel is a 10lbs cromolly flywheel and it works well.

i had a 8lbs aluminium flywheel before and it was fine also.

 

had a little talk with a rep at Spec and i'm gonna go with the stage 3+ clutch kit and their steel flywheel. Comes out at 11.7 lbs. Should be perfect for what i'm doing.
