What does a bad rear LCA bushing sound like?
Because I've never had one before. These are the same Megan's that the previous owner put on the car. The bushings are torn a little, but I'm not sure if this is where the sound is coming from. It sounds like there's a popcorn machine behind my car everywhere I go.

I've been looking at rear LCAs for the past hour and have found that D2, Ksport, Megan, F², and Blox all use rubber bushings. This may be fine for some but look at what happened to mine. Skunk2 and Function 7 have polyurethane bushings, and Function 7 and PasswordJDM offer spherical bearing versions. The most cost effective rear LCA is the Skunk2, it's not as cool looking as the Function 7, but they're of similar quality.
Anyone else want to describe how their shot rear LCAs sounded? It would suck if I spent $200 that I didn't have to.

If you look at your LCA bushings and if they're cracked or came out of their metal sleeve, then they're gone. Buy LCAs with poly or bearing bushings. I bought 3rd gen Omni Power LCAs with poly bushings for my old hatch.
Thank you! I forgot to look at those earlier and they have them at King Motorsports for $150 on sale. Score.
So blown rear LCAs are definitely audiable and annoying as heck and sound like popcorn?

i don't like skunk2 lca... i have a pair... mine were on for 3 months and the bushing were torn horribly on both... and i have a couple friend who have had the same thing happen to thier cars... but it was only like 8 bucks to get new bushing... we'll see how long the new ones last...

All you need.
I was also tempted to get some flashy LCA's. Honestly, they look great and are a little lighter....that's it. For $200 you could put polyurethane bushings in your entire suspension. And yes, they make a huge difference. Especially when you have been rolling around in 15 year old rubber ones.

Thanks, yes I would like to replace all of my bushings with ES but I'm sure it takes at least a whole day to replace them all. Wouldn't I have to press out the old LCA bushings? I don't have a torch, or press or anything.
I'd still like some more bad LCA sound testimonials...

I just jacked it up in the back, took the wheel off and started pulling up and down on the hub and I'm pretty sure it started making the sound I've been hearing. But the sound was coming from where my springs are, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
I was about to buy the Function 7's but from what I could tell from today, it looks like I won't be spending any money on new LCAs for a while. The sound has been getting worse though, it's really hard to pin point this sound.
I'm getting new springs anyways, so maybe my car is telling me I need to replace my old TEINs and stock shocks. SOUND GOOD TO ME!

it might be the trailing arm bushing.. check and see if its torn..
the original trailing arm bushings on EG civics sucked and didnt last long.. the replacement is like $36 at honda.. and you need a special tool to remove them. or just take the whole arm off and press it out..
here is the write up on how to change them
https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...g+trailing+arm
and here is the part #
52385-S21-003 is the latest updated Honda part number for 88-00 civics (and DC2 integras which are same size as the EG but i dont think acura has a # for it) for the RTA bushing, from 2002 bulletin 00-006e.

I looked at it some more today and noticed when I jounce the back end up and down, that the right shock, looking at it from inside my hatch area with the cover off, doesn't move with the body like my left side shock does. And the sound is coming from the right shock area. So I'm pretty sure I have bad upper shock bushings.
I have new shocks and springs on the way, so I'm about to order the Energy rear shock bushing kit (16.8103). It's made for stock shocks, so I'll probably have to bore them out a little.
Has anyone ever had upper shock bushings go out?

My question to you is when you installed the rear LCA's, did you tighten them down with the suspension hanging or did you tighten them down after the car was resting on normal ground? If you tightened down with suspension hanging you'll wear out any bushing very quickly.
and if you want to upgrade the trailing arm bushing I'd recommend megan racing. Stay away from energy suspension for the trailing arm bushing since it doesn't allow any side play like it was designed for.
OMNI and Skunk2 over rear LCA's with polyurethane bushings.

)When it comes time to replace my trailing arm bushings I'm going with Mugen.
They were already installed on the car when I got it. I know not to tighten the bolts down until the car is lowered onto the ground to the bushings won't twist and have more tension than necessary on them. (Steering & Suspension class

Good to hear, after years of giving in to the temptation of the abundance of cheap parts on the internet just to find that they fail or don't work like I wanted them to. I would rather buy one high quality part than four cheap parts that I would have eventually have to replace for higher quality parts. It's best to do things right the first time and to understand that all parts are not created equally, such as rubbers or polyurethanes, or here's a better example: stainless steel, and bearings.
What H&R springs are those? Race? I have some coming in the mail next week...and some shocks... guess what color they are... yellow. I can't wait if you can't tell.

It wasn't the LCA bushings, it was the upper shock bushings. There's a gap inbetween the top washer and the top bushings and it rattles around and makes a lot of noise. Good news is that my Koni Yellows came in the mail and my H&R race springs will be here tomorrow. Bad news is that since I'm in a small college town, the nearest Honda dealership is 30 miles away. But taking a drive and getting the real deal is actually alot cheaper than paying for overpriced pos parts at the parts store.
