Default Incorrect Tach

I've noticed a lot of factory tachometers are off by about +/- 400 RPM. I'll be street tuning and datalogging with CROME Pro and the driver will ask why they are redlining at 8000 and not 8400 as they requested. I'll have to explain that this is normal and the computer is actually reading 8400 while they're stock cluster is reading 8000.

You may have a cluster that is just REALLY off.

Do you have a way to datalog the car or perhaps borrow an aftermarket tach to find out what the actual RPM is?

Minimal at best, but it might be worth it depending on the deal you're getting on it. If you do, I would definitely get cam gears to really take advantage of them.

Skunk2 cams aren't so bad to tune, but I've dealt with some other brands that create really nasty looking fuel maps when their not dialed in with cam gears.
