Default Accord V6 performance....

Alright, I am a civc owner myself. Consequently I don't know too much about the accord as far as performance is concerened. One of the guys at work has a newer accord V6 (daily driver-grocery getter). He's been asking me what he can do to make it just a little bit faster without spending TOO much money. He's been looking into chips and I told him that would be one way to get better numbers. I also told him maybe an intake. What would you guys reccommend for moderate upgrades? He already said no to an exhaust. Any suggestions?

intake will be cheap effective upgrade...aem short ram dynos at 10 hp to the wheels on the v6

headers would give the most power, but come at a premium of $1k...about 20 hp to the wheels

An AEM CAI and a catback will make a huge difference on that car.

Thanks for the info guys. Nobody said anything about a chip. Are the chips not very good for the V6? Or they just too expensive? He said he didn't wanna do exhaust, but I might be able to convince him to go catback. He definitely wouldn't go for headers though.

as always with a CAI, you run the risk of hydrolock. not worth the measly few wHP if you ask me. also, im not sure about this, but i do believe that an upgrade mod chip or any kind of ecu change will void whats left of the warranty if the dealer finds out about it .

Chips wont do anything on slightly moded Hondas because the fuel map is relatively unchanged and ignition is static.

...I remember some moron bought a stage 3 Hondata on his i/h/e Integra and dynod to +2whp.

Tell him to visit http://www.v6accord.com All the answers are there. Hydrolock is sucking water into your engine through your intake. If you get a ram intake that gets air from the lower part of the bumper you can get water in your engine in the rain or puddles.

Intakes aren't worth it in my opinion. They produce some HP up top but in the low revs (under 3K) your going to lose torque which the Honda engines allready lack allot of. Most peoples driving is in this range anyway so I wouldn't sacrifice it.

Alright, I went to this AccordV6.com and I registered an everything. I went to go make a new thread and for some reason it won't let me. I can type up what I wanna say and then when I hit "submit" it just goes to the "this page cannot be displayed" page. I dunnno if it's my computer or the site, either way I'm done f*ing with it. I was hoping I could just get some answers here.

Here are my views:

First of all how much power does your friend want? Sounds like he's not too serious if he doesn't want exhaust.

I'd recommend AEM CAI, maybe some UR pullies. I hear the Denso Iridium plugs are ok. I had the ik20 for nitrous but it sucked for gas. The ik16 might be a little better. He'll definitely want to lower the car because the Accord sits too tall. Will he be fast? Uhhh, no. He might be a little quicker than some Av6's but compared to other cars not really. Once he gets smoked a couple times, do your friend a favor and point him to a good nitrous kit.
