p28 in a 98 ej8 ques....
i got a good deal on an obd2 to 1 harness.... and possibly a good deal on a p28... and my question is can i just plug it all in and be fine?? how much of a gain is that?? are there any disadvantages or advantages ? also can i use a pr4 with a vtec controller??
as far as i know they just plug in...try searching "conversion harness" or "obd2 to obd1 conversion harness" or something like that. as far as the p28 goes...you really dont gain anything hp wise. but it will be easier to chip and tune if you plan on doing some major mods to your car. also...you can use a vtec controller on any ecu as far as i know..of course if your using a non-vtec ecu then vtec wont work by my apex'i vafc adjust more than just vtec. so i dont see why you couldnt.
you can use the p28 but it would be in your best interest to get it chipped and have a different basemap installed. Im saying this because your prolly running a d16y7 or y8 motor which have different timing maps that will need to be changed accordingly. This being said i have heard of people running p28s with a y8 motor just it isnt to its full potential.

going obd1 is always the best choice. if u run a chipped p28 on a y8 and it runs like **** it aint the ecu its the base map. obviously it has a program for a different motor. i chip ecu's and program them and i have never had any complaints. i even ran a stock p28 on my y8 some years ago that **** ripped.
