Default p06 to p28 help.

does it matter if i switched from po6 to p28 being whether po6 is chipped or not? the car was originally non-vtec but previous owner installed a vtec head and im not sure it the ecu is chipped or not.

p28 should work if its a vtec head. it works with a variety of different engines, and originally came in a d16 (i believe), so its practically the same thing.

you need a P28. P06s can be converted to P28s, but it requires actually adding components to the PCB and then chipping with P28 maps

THANK YOU!!!
so a po6 ecu wont work even though he rewired the harness for vtec?

also if i get a p28 should i get the harness for it too or should i just use the one i have right now (which been spliced into other wires.)

The harness you have now should work fine as long as the vtec is wired. Check the haynes manual but i believe the vtec wire going to the ecu is orange and white. I recently converted my 95 del sol to vtec with a z6 head and the car was already wired for it i just had to wire the vtec controller.

Well they only rewired the wires from the o2 sensor to the ecu. They put a LED switch by the stereo (im guessing vtec switch?) with 3 wires coming from it. One wire to the vtec solenoid the other to the positive connection (the on in the fuse box) and the other is ground.

either get another harness, or rewire properly. Heres a pinout for you. Don't use a vtec switch, or vtec controller, if you really want to change your vtec engagement point, which really doesn't make much sense unless you have a pretty heavily modded engine, have the car dyno tuned and chipped.

OK. Well, out of curiosity what would happen if i plug a p28 in and not wire the vtec. would it just run like a regular non-vtec motor?

Hello i am new to the messages boards, i dont know if im in the right place
but anyways im having issues with my car
i have a 92 civic si hatch, it has a d16z6 with all the wiring there i believe
When i switch the p06 to the p28 my number 3 injector wont pulse for some reason, i switched the plug from 3 to 4 and it moves to number 4 etc.

it has the vtec solenoid, and the pressure switch, both are hooked up into the ecu at the correct pins on the computer
someone eliminated the pre and post cat o2 sensors
(the ones by the cat itself) i searched for a place in the harness to reconnect it but i cannot find anywhere it might of been cut from
my issue is i bought the car with a p06 in it, and it runs fine no codes, rev limits at 7 grand
when i install the p28 it goes into limp mode red lining at 3 grand and throws a code 16 at me (which is fuel related) (injectors maybe)
my questions is why does it not give me codes with a po6/
this car should be vtec originally. I have no clue what was done just trying to troubleshoot
any ideas or comments are appretiated (confused as hell)
thank you
