Icon6 axle, maybe u-joint question....edited.

i think my drivers side axle is fuked up. having only read about axle problems i don't know for sure though. symptoms: when clutch is pressed in and im coasting i can feel a quick thumping with my feet. it feels like it's associated with the rotation of the tire. it does not do this when the car is in gear. i think it sounds like an axle...but i'd like a second opinion.

thanks.

EDIT: upon talking to some honda guys at work im thinking more that there is a problem with my u joint or cv joint. i was looking on majestic honda and can't really find a diagram that helps. the thumping is not getting any worse, but i am noticing more of a pattern. when i come to stop it makes a popping sound at certain points in the tires rotation, and it seems like its at the same place everytime( imagine top dead center rotating around and poping everytime it got to top dead center.) it seems to pop more when im between 20-30 mph. and going around turns doesn't seem to make a difference one way or the other(some corners it pops, some it doesn't). im limpig around right now because it's my DD and i wont have a chance to get under it until sunday.. is there anyway that i can tell for sure if it's my axle or a joint? and no, my axle boot is not torn...if it is my axle it's a bent axle, not a broken one. thanks in advance as this could not have happened at a worse time(engine should be pulled within a month for major rebuild.

there are little knoby rubber things located on rad support near the headlights....try twisting those down the see if that helps your clearance problem....as for the thumping noise...if you are feeling it in the gas pedal when in gear and putting on load then its an axle...if you're feeling it while in neutral in the clutch pedal then your clutch may be loose inside your tranny housing...that's all i can think of.

Don't no about the hood issue, but for the axle, just lift up your car and look at the axle and the boots and if you see that it's ripped then replace it.

the adjusters on the rad support don't help. it's like its hitting on something further back like in the middle of the engine bay. i'm gunna make some big playdough ***** and set them on all of the high things then close the hood..that should tell me where the contact is. as for the axle, i just drove some more it is doing it when the car is in gear now too. it's not doing it at all(or so it seems) when i get on it, but when im going between 20-30 it does it. it seems to get louder as i decellerate. in for help....

Yeah, lift your car up and if the boot on your axle is ripped up or whatever, then you should get it changed.

the boot is not ripped. really leaning toward a cv joint/u joint. anyone dealt with them before? similar popping sound?

i just decided to go outside and lift up the car to check it out despite the fact that it's FREEZING COLD outside and dark. You'll never believe what I found.... only one of my lug nuts was even remotely tight. and the other three were so loose that i took them off with my fingers. HOLY CHIT i'm so happy i decided to be proactive and not wait until sunday, cause i would have driven around till then. The only thing that i can think of is that due to the camber the wheels, and the fact that i had to lower it to tighten the lug nuts(just changed my brake pads), that the mounting surfaces weren't flush. man that is seriously so scary. just glad i caught it before i, or someone else for that matter was hurt.
