I got some questions bout the 94 ex I just picked up
Hey all. I just bought a 94 EX Coupe and was wondering some things about it. It needs some work but for the $600 I paid for it i couldnt pass it up.
1. First off is the motor that is in it. Its got a d16y7 in it. What car did that motor originally come in?
2. It has disc brakes in the back. Was that original for the car?
3. The tranny grind going into 3rd and 4th gear a little. I have the hookup on replacement trannies so i was wondering what year of tranny should I get that will fit into the car?
Im probably going to have a bunch of other questions once i dive into this project but thats the few things I was wondering at the moment. Any help is much appriciated. Thanks

ok here you go. SOHC_4dr could be right on all or none of these answers...its hard to tell. but here is what i know...
1. could be from a 1996-00 civic dx, lx, cx, or any other civic that has a d16y7. i do know for a fact it is from a 1996-00 civic non-vtec.
2. it could be from a 92-95 civic si, or lx ( i have heard that all 4 doors have 4 wheel disc brakes), or a 94-01 integra.
3. and you can use any tranny you would like...if you want performace you can get the ex/si tranny or for gas mileage you can use the cx or hf trannys, or if you want a middle grade tranny you can get the dx tranny.

ok so the rear discs are not stock then? How would I found out what they came from so I know what rotors and pads too buy? So the d16y7 isnt a vtec motor? Mine has a Vtec valve cover
no they are not stock as far as i can remember...and i think they all are the same...except i think the gsr brakes are bigger but im not 100% sure. and no they are not vtec unless someone did a mini me swap.

I got a header from a buddy that had it on his d15 on his 93 hatch. Would it fit? How do I tell if I have a vtec head?
idk if it will fit or not...i dont think it will fit from a d15. and you gotta look for the vtec selonoid on the backside of the head. it looks like this.

ps...this is off a ef civic...but it should still look like this. look for a green plug in and a little round thing. it will be on the backside of the head on the left side (if you are looking at the engine). it should be pretty easy to see.

alrighty. Thats so much for the info. Im sure to have more questions when i start working on it. i got some wiring to figure out. I will have to post some pics along with it so everybody can see what im working with.
just to let you know 94 ex's came with 4 wheel disc brakes . i have owned a 94 ex and a 95 ex both had them stock, so when u buy brake parts just get them for ur model. the rest of the info was correct though

they wouldnt sell rear disc's. pads. and hardware kit for a car that dosent come with the option
but to the other guy your correct 6th gen civics are rear drum except the si of coarse. i was dissapointed when i sold my 95 and bought my 97 to find out it had rear drum

'94 and '95 EXs cam stock with ABS, they were not available in '93, and there were no coupes in '92, only hatches and sedans. Front brakes if its ABS will be the larger integra style brakes.
