True that. The only way a plug test really works is run then shut down. So say your running rich or think you are at WOT run the bike WOT then shut it down and check the plugs. You do not want to ride it anymore or the plugs may show correct burn if its running good at part throttle.

Also would do a leak down / compression test. That oil is bad news bears.

Just in case also make sure you find the crush ring for the one plug that seams missing in the pic.

nothing. Bike has sat for a few. Changing out for new ones anyways. No they don't look bad considering it blows black smoke out the exhaust when I get on it

That doesn't necessarily mean the bike is running rich overall. The fuel added when opening the throttle is rich.

Plug checks should be done with a throttle chop at WOT

Oily threads just could mean the valve cover gaskets need to be replaced.

Remember my dad telling me about the old superbikes at laguna and how they would kill the bike comming into the pits during practice. They'd pull the plugs and give 'em to the old guy and he could tell exactly what was wrong/what to tune just by looking at the plugs. Don't know if the old guy part is true, but spark plug reading was a religion back in the day.
