Default VTEC controllers possible on i-VTEC

can the usual Vtec controllers be used on the new iVTEC engines. Or is there no chance to controll VTEC with Aepxi VAFC or Fields?

Good question, if the soleniod's the same voltage it should work on the cam switchover for lift but not the variable cam timing portion.

Even if it works, I don't think it's good. Because the ECU has to switch to the VTEC fuel map too when VTEC is engaged.

You can compenstae for that by richening up the fuel curve across the rpm range where you lowered the x-over. At least that's how it works on our cars.

I know, but it's not optimal. How about ignition timing and such?

That's what standalones are for. Unfortunately I don't think there's a standalone that can do i-VTEC or VVTL-i engines yet. The dynamic cam timing would be a bitch to program for.

No you can't use a VAFC on IVTEC equipped cars. Go Apex-I's website, they explain why.

Some guy on the clubrsx board got the apexi vafc to work on his rsx-s- he had the type-r(dc5r) cams installed and wanted to take advantage of them- he dynoed the car and the results weren't too impressive- if i remember right he was at or below stock rsx-s hp/tq numbers-- but this was before any major tuning and i believe he was getting other parts for the engine as well- u could try doing a search on there - he is the only one that i have heard of doing anything like that
