Help! B18C1 into 92 EG si!!
hey! I swapped a b18c1 into my 92 si. I know nothing about swaps....So here near the batteries I have 3 plugs on my civic, but on my B18c1 i have 4. Anyone know what the 4th plug is? Its 2 wire of red and yellow with a black strip...I appreciate if anyone can help!
I've got an extra 3 wire plug on the Integra Type R engine harness where the shock tower is in my 1992 Civic CX. Essentially if you've matched up the three plugs at the shock tower then don't worry about the 4th plug as it's not used on your EH3/Si HB.
The 4th connector is for the EVAP purge solenoid. On the GS-R, the IAB wiring takes the place of the EVAP wiring on non-VTEC Integras, so the EVAP has its own two pin plug on the GS-R harness (this is why you do the A20 -> A17 pin move at the ECU to get the IABs to work in a Civic). You can wire it back up if you'd like -- I just left mine unplugged.
The YEL/BLK wire is +12V (in the Integra it branches off of wires that trace back to A25 and B1 at the ECU which provide the power). The RED wire is connected to A20 at the ECU which provides switched ground (which activates the EVAP purge control solenoid) based on the ECU deeming that necessary.

Yes, you can leave the two extra pins for the EVAP disconnected. I've been running mine this way for 5 years.
To make the IAB/secondary butterfly work, all you have to do is move the wire at ECU location A20 to A17. (This assumes you're using a GS-R engine harness or have added the IAB wiring if you're not.)

Some people, who so far as I can figure out are too lazy to wire up the secondary butterflies and either remove them entirely (which IMO, without actually looking at a GR-R manifold, is even more work than just wiring them up in the first place) or they just leave them disconnected and open. The engine is supposed to run fine without them, but obviously honda put them there for a reason, and seeing as how that reason is for better low end power (something severly lacking on pretty much any honda) I tend to think that its a good enough reason to wire them up.
