The car has 260,000 miles on with a used tranny installed last year, just recently only two gears are available. Its my mothers car and its 400 miles away from me, so im not sure what two gears are working, so any help would be appreciated.

 

does she know how to drive stick, liek properly.

 

Absolutly she put all those miles on it minus 40,000 when purchased preowned, Although it seems to b stuck in 5th and reverse as it shudders and does not want to move?

 

sounds like a clutch to me.

 

take off the shift boot and see if the linkage plate is stuck somewhere so it won't move over. that happened to my friend's f250 but he only had 1st and 3rd. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2417718 might want to post on this link too

 

could be the clutch springs have broken. Happen to me, it was like at first it was iffy if it wanted to go into gear, (and out for that matter). turns out that little 1/16 inch of metal that jumped around between the flywheel and clutch made the difference of it going into gear or not. was really frustrating cause one minute it worked and the next, stuck like a rock.

you mentioned it shuttered, mine did that too, cause the little shards actually engaged the gear, even in neutral.

this was in a dc btw.

 

Im pretty sure it was the clutch, any way the car was thrown away, sold it for $100 to a co-worker wtf.
