Default living with understeer

Ive abhored understeer since the days I first tried to autox my former honda , and now while wrenching on the integra, thoughs of the dreaded understeer permiate through my head. I know theres all kinda of goodies to help neutralize it, those are all planned, as well as hopefully the cage will help some. However what driving advice/suspension tips can you give me. Hopefully I'll actually be able to drive this by mid winter.

Do your research regarding any mods before you make them. Spring rates will be the most important if your not running in the stock class. Talk to as many people with the same car as you and see what they run and what they like and dislike about the handling.

if your car is understeering horribly, then you need to slow down your corner entry speed. My car does not understeer because i drive in such a way that i'm not pushing like a pig all over the autoX course/track.

slow down.
straighten out your wheel
don't turn hard while braking hard
dont' accelerate hard while turning

the longer time your wheels are straight.. the faster you'll go

this is probably the best tip so far though. overdriving will make even a loose car understeer. or spin.

Remember there are two types of understeer: driver induced and car induced. Most of us suffer from the first. We cause the understeer. The answer has already been given by several folks: slow down at corner entry to get a faster exit.

My advice on car mods is to forget about doing any of them until you learn to drive the car. Also, it is difficult to know exactly what mods to make unless you work with an expert on your car. These are hard to find. Do AS MUCH research as you can before spending any money on mods. And then question it!

Good luck

Ron

Wonderful what you really cant deduce from an autocross snapshot.....

Question... were you there at that event? I hardly think i was "off line" anywhere on that course, even provided i admit i drove like ****. But then again, i am too hard on myself when it comes to evaluations of my own driving.

i don't get the other pic you posted then. sure looked like you went wide of the pointer cone, but admittedly pics are hard to analyze without knowing were the course went. i apologize for jumping to conclusions. point remains, the advice you gave was good.

This picture....

On this course, you went to the left of the pointer cone, to the right of the wall of 4 cones and into a slalom.. so when i was 'wide' of that cone in the pic i was actually well past it and setting up for my slalom entry.
