What tranny to get for a 1999 ls?
im needing a new tranny and i was wondering if i should just go with another stock one or with a upgrade im not needing lsd so i dont wanna get to into fixing it up
since you said you dont "need an LSD", i'm assuming you wont be doing any high performance driving, which is perfectly fine.
given these days gas prices, just get another LS.
B16/ITR are too short leaving freeway cruising RPMs a bit too high than what would be optimal for the LS powertrain.
GSR is a nice compromise.

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
The GSR trans sucks so much, though. The gear deltas are too big. I didn't like mine. I had a DD GSR. I now have a DD EM1.
The GSR would have been so much more fun with a B16A trans. I almost traded someone, but it fell through.
The B16 trans really isn't as bad as people say on the freeway. I drive between 80-100 miles a day, 5 days a week, and about 50-75% of that is freeway driving with my EM1. I set the cruise at 70-75, and go to sleep or make myself a sandwich (because that's what you do with Cruise control on). It sits around 4k...no biggie...I still get 30-31MPG including the around town driving.
You may not want your LS sitting at 4k on the highway since it's a longer stroke motor...but it would be really fun around town seeing as the LS makes good torque. Since you wouldn't be lugging the engine due to the shorter gears, you'd probably save gas around town too.
So try either the GSR or B16/ITR trans...I wouldn't just replace with an LS. I'd prefer the B16 trans.
Look at the gas mileage numbers for integras on edmunds.com.
The GSR and LS are both 25/31, IIRC.
The ITR is 25/30.
The ITR has a 1.8L and is geared like the B16A. So according to EPA recorded numbers, you probably stand to lose around 1mpg by switching to a B16 trans.
Obviously, this totally depends on how fast you go on the highway. The faster you go, the faster the mileage will drop off. It's not quite a linear relationship as far as that goes.
I can say that at around 70-75mph freeway driving and around town driving, there was about a 1mpg difference between my GSR and EM1.
