Default water in engine

well i was driving down the road today and it was raining really bad out and i was only doing about 20 or so when i crushed a puddle and not two seconds later my car shut off and my battery light came on as well as my oil light so when i tried restarting it it turned over but wouldnt stay on so i let it sit for a little bit then turned it on again it turned on but and it kept bogging down so finally i gave it some gas and it started running fine no weird noises or anything i know it got up through my cold air intake because i took it off and it wasnt soaked but there were droplets of water in it and ive heard of hydrolock before and i know thats bad so what im asking is could i have done permanent damage and is there any precautions i should take anything would help out

if its running ok now then you should probably be ok. you can hydrolock and engine very easily though....i would take care of that intake if i were you. or just be a little smarter and avoid puddles...

yeah, if you keep a cold air, definitely get a bypass valve. i had the same thing happen driving through rochester a couple years ago. the streets up north have bad drainage. ive got a brand new AEM bypass valve if you need one. $25 + shipping

also injen makes a intake hydro shield that stops water from getting into the filter as fast. The bypass valves are nice if the intake is fully submerged, if not their success rate decreases. Having a combination of the intake hydro shield and the bypass is the safest route... but I agree with l.u.d.e.51 I too cut my CAI into a SRI cause an extra 1or 2 ponies isn't worth the permanent reduction of 160 poines.
