I have an engine with an I.D. D15B(no number), but I had to take out an oil restrictor to run the Y8 head I put on it. Its turboed now and I want to do a mild engine build. My question is, how can I determine if this block is JDM or USDM to figure out which rods I currently have. I received the motor rebuilt with a rebuilt DX head on it, and have no history on it. So I dont know if someone put the oil restrictor in or what. Is there a magic number hidden somewhere, or an extra tab hangin off the side of the block or somethin crazy like that... how can I identify this thing???

if you pulled of the oil restrictor it's not JDM, because nobody imports a non vtec d15 to US. I would honestly just pick up a d16 to build.

 

Then wouldnt the block code have a number after it, if it was usdm?? I am wondering if someone put the oil restrictor in when they rebuilt the motor and put the DX head on it. That is why I am asking if there is another way to determine an engine i.d. Is there something externally I can measure? Like deck height? Because if this is a jdm d15b I can use d16 rods. I just want a mild build (insurance policy) on this turbo setup. I have already built a 300whp, 205ftq y8 civic, this is just a beater d.d. that is under a budget

 

your right the usdm block would have a number such as d15b7 if it was a dx non vtec. jdm blocks dont have any numbers after the d15b. but you need to find out what pistons are in the block cause there is a 130 or 135 hp jdm d15b with vtec and there is a 94hp d15b vtec-e engine which is the equivelent of the usdm civic vx . they have two different pistons and rods. the oil restrictor was probably put in cause of the dx head on it.

 

vx motor doesn't have a dx head on it. It's a totaly different head. Just get a d16

 

I found out today with a borescope camera that the pistons say PM3. So this motor is a USDM d15 (d15b1/b2). The point of this thread is to find a set of rods with the correct crank-end bore and use a set of vitara pistons. the D16's have a bigger bore than the D15b1/b2, so what rods are available???
